How can I change the area code on my tracfone? I tried to call for tech support was on hold for over 15 minutes, and no one ever answered! Please help.

Occasionally, area codes change in the U.S. When this occurs, wireless phones may need to be reprogrammed with a new area code and phone number.

If you have been directed to this page, or if you are aware of an area code change and wish to check if it applies to your TracFone, please follow the instructions below.

  1. Please have your TRACFONE with you during the update process.
  2. Charge the battery of your TRACFONE or plug it into the battery charger included with your phone.
  3. >>-->
  4. You will need to have your TRACFONE Serial Number (ESN, IMEI, or MEID). To obtain the serial number simply:
    • Press the Menu key
    • Scroll with the arrow key, and select "Prepaid"
    • Scroll down with the arrow key, until you get to the option of My ESN, My IMEI, IMEI number, or Serial number
    • Press Select or OK
    • The number displayed is your Serial Number.
    • You will also need to provide the ZIP Code of the area where you will be using your TRACFONE the most.
  5. Then you can use a computer to finish the area code and number change by going to this URL.
http://www.tracfone.com/area_code_update.jsp

I hope that you have found this information useful as that is my goal. Have a great day!

My radioshack pro-97 scanning-reciver is making a noise like morse code what would cause this to happen?

That's something normal, depending on the freqs you're listening to. All radio frequencies have an FCC-assigned ID associated with them, typically 4 letters and 3 numbers, such as "WRYH 934", which identifies the agency transmitting on that frequency. Some newer systems use morse code to transmit that ID so the dispatch center doesn't have to read the ID over the air. It's not your scanner.

AREA CODE

Just purchased the GE 25922 today. Looks like you can skip (ignore) the option to enter an area code.

United States' Area Codes are three-digit numbers. If the phone 'requires' entering a number you can use any three digit number. The purpose of this option is to display a local telephone number with only the 7 digits.

Example:
603 - 123 - 4567
'603' is the area code
123-4567 is the 7-digit local number.

If the area code option is programmed to '603', then if that number called '123-4567' would display on the Caller ID display.
Which now reminds me: you would need to also subscribe to Caller ID with the Telephone Company for the numberic display to occur.
