have you tried runnning it with the top off ? is the fan working ? if it is, is it fast and making a noise? that would be overheating and shutting down to prevent heating OR as you said Faulty power supply, if a power supply is faulty I would just replace the whole power supply as they are cheap on ebay. Good Luck
The only thing I can think of that could cause your system to act this way is related to power issues. First of all your power cable or source could be damaged and as a result, cannot supply any power to the system. The first thing you should try is to get another cable from a friend and try it. You could also test your cable on another console. This way you can figure out if your console or cable is bad. If both refuses to work then your console might have blown up over the night and might require a complete checkup or replacement of parts by sony. Hope this was helpful?
Restart the system.
Press the power button on the system front for 10 secs or more. This will force the system to shut down. After some time turn on the system again.
Also check the system is in a place where it is getting enough air to cool down as over heating also tend to shut down the sysytem
Hi there, This issue may be caused by your power supply and or console not getting good enough ventilation or air vents clogged with dust causing over heating. Check power supply and keep in wide open area same with console (not sitting on carpet). If over heating is the issue you may have warped your motherboard, what happens is the Graphics processing unit (GPU) and or Central processing unit (CPU) get extremely hot causing the mobo to warp and the solder becomes loose and break. Even the fan may be the culprit, the fan uses a lot of power and produces a fair amount of heat that can cause the system to over heat. Please contact microsoft and get system repair if problem persist.
In all actuality, it shouldn't make a difference. But there are select cords out there that may have a short or deliver the wrong voltage. That is why in the Sony warranty it says that the warranty is void if you use a cable thatisn't approved by Sony for use with the PS3.
So does the red standby light come on when you power on the toggle switch in the back?? If not then it is the power supply. You will need a new power supply installed.
If it does the old Green/Yellow/flashing Red when you push the front power button, the you have some motherboard problems and need to call Sony or sell it and get a new one, or find the problem and fix it.
Hope this helps. Good luck and happy gaming!!
