Garmin nuvi won't talk

Go to Garmin's Web Updater webpage and download and install the program. Follow the directions to update the firmware and voices. TTS types are "Text To Speech" and will read and speak street names, like "Turn right to Elm Street, etc. Those that lack TTS are standard voices - they will only say "Turn right in 100 feet" in the same place on the road.

Go though the device menu settings and make sure that you have a voice selected "Jack US English" or "Jill US English" are the typical TTS voices chosen for US English speaking drivers.

I assume you've checked that it's not muted or that the volume is not fully down.

• Press TOOLS at the bottom right corner of the screen that says WHERE TO and VIEW MAP
• Press SETTINGS
• Press LANGUAGE

This brings you to a screen with 3 items. VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD

• Press VOICE and select an English speaking voice. This may solve the problem. If it doesn't it may be because the voice file is corrupted and needs to be downloaded again.

To download it again,

• Download and install WEBUPDATER from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27
• Connect your satnav to your computer and run webupdater
• It will search for updates to your software and if it finds some it will install them. When the installation is complete it will give you the option to download some extras including voice files.
  
• Select the voices you want by ticking them and click next to download them to your satnav.
• When they are downloaded you'll need to select the one you want by going back to the LANGUAGE icon and pressing VOICE as described in the first paragraph above.
  

Go to Tools...Settings....Language ... pick a language that ends with TTS

Languages
voices
Choose a setting with a person's name at the side of it
IE: American English Jill
This will talk to you then
Also on the menu, check Volume and Mute are good.

This will work--go to Tools, Settings, Language and then select a Language that has TTS following it--this is the text to speech choice. Choose English TTS Jill if you like to hear the woman.

I had the same problem. I fixed it by going to settings, then to language, and then entering American English into the Voice category. Hope this helps.

I have a 750. I went to settings, language and restored the defaults. The Voice was blank when I went to that screen. I am not sure if the 205 has the language setup or not, but this should solve other Garmin problems. Go to tools-settings-language-voice and make sure it is set to "American English-Jack (TTS) or to American English-Jill (TTS)
