Question about Compaq Presario X1000 Notebook

2 Answers

I took to get a diagnostic and they advised the motherboard was out.  I kinda forgot about it and packed it away for about a year and decided to mess with it last night and to my surprise, it booted up several times after I shut down and restarted.  (just to check it out)  Everything was working last night.  I turned it on this morning and now it's not working again.  If a motherboard goes out, will it still work sometimes?  I just don't think that's what is going on with mine.    Any ideas??? (power light on, you can hear it start to boot but then nothing)

Sounds like you definitely have something that is intermittently not making proper contact. I'd suggest checking all of the cable connectors first. Disconnect each one and reseat it. If that doesn't do the trick, you may have a broken land pattern on the motherboard. That usually means a motherboard replacement.

If you have a diagnostics system in your pc check the devices with that but I would say it is either the battery or the power pack dell are quite well known for their power pack changing voltages and stopping the battery from charging

Sound card replacement for dell inspiron e1405

The sound card is integrated into the system board (motherboard). If your audio circuit is defective then you will have to replace the system board.
Try running diagnostics on yourcomputer to see if you have a hardware problem. You should have a CD that camewith the computer that has "Diagnostics and Utilities" listed undercontents. Boot form this CD and run the extended diagnostics.
If you don't have the CD you can go to and select "Drivers and Downloads". Enter the"service tag" (serial number) of the computer. You can then download"Diagnostics" .
To boot from a CD disk, power on your computer and tap the key tobring you to the "One time boot menu". Insert the CD into the top CD/DVD driveand then select "Boot from CD/DVD" and hit key. Select the"Run the 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics.

If all tests pass then reload OS ( Operating Software ).

Won't power up. Took it apart to replace fan and now won't even begin boot. Occasionally, it will only to hang up somewhere in the boot cycle. Got it as far as diagnostic' twice but hung up again (froze)...

Power on your computer. After teh Dell logo, if it stopped on the microsoft running green light screen, you have a no boot issue. Try reinstalling the OS.

If it doesn't even power up, try to reseat the following devices:

- Bluetooth
- Wireless card
- Memory modules

Then Power your computer back on... If it still doesn't power on, motherboard needs replacement.

Horizontail lines with compaq pessario c500

This could be a problem with were the plug from the LCD plugs into the motherboard. Try removing the power button bezel and maybe the keyboard and see if the plug that plugs into the motherboard from the LCD is loose. If it is not loose, try removing the plug and reinsert it back into the socket. IT could also be a problem with the graphics card or wires running from the motherboard to the LCD. If this does not resolve the issue, I would recommend running a diagnostics on it (If equipped) or take it to a reputable repair facility to have further diagnosis performed.

Forgot my admin passcode

If you don't know the BIOS password the best way to go about this will be to locate the CMOS battery and remove it. The CMOS battery stores the system's setup information (boot sequence, time/date, password, etc.) and most laptops don't have a clear CMOS jumper like desktop motherboards do. If you provide an exact model number we can help you locate the battery.

Otherwise you might have luck unplugging the AC power to the laptop and removing the battery pack. Try again after 24 hours.

Good luck.

Need help think i may need a motherboard

If the the laptop is failing to boot very early in the4 boot sequence, then this usually points to a failure somewhere on the motherboard. There are a few test you can run to try. 1) Try downloading the following Diagnostic program and running it on your computer. The download makes a bootable CD, and you can try running a bunch of diagnostics on your computer with out having to boot into Windows. You can test memory, the hard drive, and other things. 2) Try replacing the memory. Sometimes bad memory can cause a device not to boot. 3) If neither of the above suggestions work, then I'm afraid you will need a new motherboard.
