KP-53XBR45, Sound OK, but no picture

I was watching TV the other night and all of a sudden the picture went out. The sound is still there but no picture. So I turned it off and on again and the red standby light keeps blinking and the sound/volume is OK, but still bo picture. What could be wrong? Any suggestions would help. Maybe a bulb burned out? A fuse? Please help!!

You may have a bad convergence... short will shutdown your HV circuitry leaving just audio?

Sony KP53XBR45 Customer was watching it and the picture just whent out but still had sound. Now when press power button the LED light flashes 7-times and won't turn on. Any suggestions? Thanks, Alltech...

Are you getting sound? If not, then your power supply is faulty. If you sound but no picture, then an IC or STK capacitors are faulty depending on what type of tv it is.

"pop sound", picture out, burning smell...?

Usually, yes. A bulb that has audibly 'popped' will be apparently bad if you pull it out of the TV (shattered). Other times this is a lamp ballast board.

Sony KP-53XBR45 convergence

Hey, found the problem. Your Convergence IC chip went bad. Buy one at Bluestar International Components ( - order part number STK392-010 for 6.99. I've read that there are two in the system and replacing them both at same time is a good, order 2. Now, if you are handy, it will require you to open the back of the TV and solder out the old chip and replace with new. If not, then you might as well call a TV repair person and have them fix. However, every place I've called works on a minimum fee for "large screen TVs" - the cheapest I could find in Atlanta was $399 minimum service fee. So, I'm going to risk the home sodering job .... it's a 10 year old TV and as good as it's been to me, if I screw it up, I feel I've gotten my money out of it. Good luck with your repair. My parts are on order.

Sony KP-53xbr45 problem

on your model which is a RA-1 chassis the power light blinking steady just means the standby voltages are operating, so you will need to trouble shoot the power supply. you will either need the service manual or training manual to trck down the faulty component.
