Re: G3 time issue
IF YOURE running tiger, go to the apple top left screen, drop down menu, choose SYSTEM PREFS....it should look like.....
3rd item on 4th row......you can select it manually or let it set by netowrk if you have access to the internet at the time.
Now if your date and time keep setting back when you restart your
computer, you may need to zap the PRAM (****-ram). Also if your battery
is not reliable or not keeping a proper charge, that will affect your
machines time and date.....try checking your battery's cycle.......

It could be that it has gone to sleep. If you press any key on the keyboard it should wake up. To set the amount of time tbefore it goes to sleep go to the apple menu top left hand corner of the screen then down to system preferences and then the control panel energy saver and select the length of time before the display is put to sleep. Unchecking the box that says "put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" will also help but the macbook's battery will run down faster. Hope this helps
turns out you have an iBook G3. Your computer is really too outdated to be expected to play video properly. You can add more RAM but it really will only partially help you out. the G3 computers just aren't made for decoding streaming video, especially now that YT has HD video.
I'm sorry that you have an ibook g3 but it's good that you are new to mac, there is still time to change.
However, neither of these are the cause of your problem.
You'll need to give your computer the correct password for the "router" that you are trying to access.
If it says "pop.compuserve.com server timed out" either your User name and password is wrong or the settings for the account are wrong. You will have to call Tech Support to make sure that you have the settings correct. Compuserve Technical Support Monday-Friday 8:00am to 1:00am(ET) Saturday and Sunday 10:00am to 10:00pm(ET)
that just means it cant find it you need to try other setting and create a network connection, it should see the network cable straight away try diff port on the router then dial up the ip address of the router first and change the setting . ip like 220.127.116.11
Has the hard drive been replaced yet? Computer hard drives have a 4 year average life. the last g3 shipped in 2002.................The G3 ibook was also infamous for bad logicboards or separated GPUs. Check
http://www.coreyarnold.org/ibook/ or http://forums.macnn.com/69/mac-notebooks/210232/diy-ibook-dual-usb-logic-board/
! for research only- I take no responsibilty if you turn your failing ibook into a brick or set your block on fire, but I know this technique very well!
The date and time are held by the battery so I would guess the battery is going dead or is. Try keeping it plugged in and shut it down for a few then reboot. If the time and date stay good guess the battery is dead. Also make sure you get the power management firmware update from apple. hope it helps
