Question about GE 25865 Cordless Phone

1 Answer

No dial tone at all!

We bought this product for the office- specifically because we need to be mobile and there are 2 lines we need to be able to access.
We can't figure out why we can't get a dial tone-if we plug in a normal phone it gets a dial tone-but not with this. Are we supposed to set up the lines with their respective phone numbers?

I assume you put the battery in and charged it for 12 hrs. If everything is plugged in correctly then it's time to return the phone as it is defective. GE does not have a very good rep with phones.

I cant send a fax or reseave one

Solution one: Check the fax connections Use the following steps to check the physical connections, and then use the HP Fax Test Service.

Step one: Check the physical connections

  1. Disconnect the telephone cord from the HP fax product, and then examine the connector on the end of the cord. Make sure that the cord has only two wires. Figure 1: Two-wire telephone cord

  1. Four-wire telephone cordGraphic: Four-wire telephone cordIf the cord has four wires, replace it with a two-wire phone cord.
If you must use a cord with four wires, use the converter that shipped with product. The converter allows a cord with four wires to work with a device that requires a cord with two wires.
  2. Connect one end of the telephone cord to the telephone jack, and then connect the other end of the cord to the port labeled 1-Line on the back of the HP fax product.

  2. Connect a single-line telephone to the 2-Ext port on the back of the HP fax product.

  4. Connect a single-line telephone to the 2-Ext port on the back of the HP fax product.

If other devices need to use the same telephone jack, make sure that they are connected to the 2-Ext port on the back of the HP fax product.

3 - Optional telephone cord to telephone
    4 - Optional telephone
    5 - Answering machine
    6 - Two-wire telephone cord to 1-Line
  2. Pick up the telephone receiver and listen for a dial tone. Make sure that you can dial out using the telephone keypad.
If there is a dial tone and you can dial out using the telephone, the HP fax product is connected correctly to a working telephone cord and telephone jack. If there is no dial tone, check the configuration again and make sure that it is set up correctly. If You Still Having Hp Printer Problem Then Visit Official HP Printer Website On Below Link URL

I just installed a replacement At&t EP 5962 2 line, answering answering device telephone. Line 2 does not get a dial tone. I installed it into proper / same as before outlets and both lines light...

There may be damage to the wiring of line 2 (either in the building or on the phone). Are both lines wired to one jack or are they separate? Do you have any other jacks that have line 2 connected (preferably as single line jack) in the building?

I like to use an old single line corded phone that does not use a power adapter. (As long as the EP5962 corded base will work without power (POTS), it might work for the tests below. You might want a simpler phone to carry around.)

If the lines have separate jacks, try switching line 1 and line 2. (Connect your Line 2 jack to the Line 1 input on the phone and vice versa.) If line 2 doesn't give a dial tone when connected to line 1, see the next set of tests. Otherwise, contact AT&T if the phone is under warranty. These phones are not meant to be user-serviced. Alternatively, plug in a different phone to the line 2 jack to test for dial tone.

Next move to another jack with line 2. Check if you have dial tone at that point. (If you do, you know the problem is at the first jack or the wiring to the jack.)

If there is no dial tone at the next jack or you do not have another jack for the line, find where your telephone service comes in. Open the service box and determine the type of connections in the box. If you are lucky, you will find RJ-11 jacks for the incoming service. Plug in your test phone and check for dial tone. If you have no dial tone or can't check the service, then contact your telephone company. They will test your line and fix it free if the probIem is outside.

If you have a dial tone, then it's an inside wiring problem. Inspect the visible wires for damage. Open the faceplates for the jacks and check for loose wires. There are two types of connectors. Screw type connectors need the wire stripped back a little then wrap around the screw and tighten. The other type is a punchdown jack. To repair a loose wire in this, you will need a punchdown tool. These are often available in hardware/home improvement stores in the wiring section. has clear pictures of the wire color to pin pattern.

You may want a professional to check the wires inside the walls. Your phone company will fix problems for a fee.

Damaged DSL filters on one line could be the cause. Similarly certain animals may have chewed on the specific wires somewhere in the line.

I hope this helps.

We have a 4-line system in our office, but it is not working properly. For instant, when line 4 only comes into one of the phones. All lines are working properly with dial tones. If we would...

Now here's a conflict. Does line 4 work on any other phone where it doesn't ring? You say all lines are working properly wiith dial tones, tnen you say you can't pick it up from another phone.

I don't think these phones have "private lines", but the dial tone comes from the 2nd RJ-14 jack on the wall. On every phone, you could swap the plugs so that line 1 comes into line 3 and line 3 comes into line 1 (you'll lose the intercom) and see if you get dial tone on line 2 which will be the phone that works line 4. The point being to determine if you have a wiring issue or a programming problem.

I tried to set speed dial, but did something wrong, and now line 2 wont work in my office only. It says reorder tone. How do I fix that?

Press PROGRAM the button where line 2 used to be, and dial 02 STORE.

That should bring line 2 back onto the button.

Line 2 will not ring if on line 1

It's still a bit hard to solve, but a typical RCA Visys system has programming options for each line. Here's a manual for one of the family

On page 15 you set the ringing tone and OFF is an option. On page 18 under Call Alert Tone, there are specific instructions for setting up each line to ring. It has to be programmed for each line in order to work. If you typically answer the phone on a specific set, I would make sure that line 2 is programmed to ring on some of the other sets. Also, you might want to make sure that you have more than one phone ringing on both lines just for this case.

I hope this helps.

Problems to SEND a fax

I'm not sure what you mean entirely but this could help.

Usually sending faxes are only a problem if:

You have the printer set up correctly. (Phone line must be in line 1) or your phone line digital, which the product does not support unless you have a filter.

Also, if by different dial tone you mean "distinctive ring," that also is not supported by the product.
