Accounts messed up

Left my job about 6 months ago, was called a couple weeks ago because all accounts are messed up, she had been entering bills but when paying she was just going to checks and printed not going into payables and checking off, outside accountant has been recon. accts monthy but did not
address this problem.......I'm going in today to see what I can do , it would have been simple without the reconciliation.. the accounts payable shows the bills have been paid, but in the payable screen , since they have not been checked off, show thousands of dollars still owing, if I check them off now they mess up the virtual checking account..I was wondering if I should check them off and use a bogus account..

Re: accounts messed up

In my experience, if accounts payable shows them paid, then I would just delete the bill. The bills are just a bill. Once the payable shows them paid, then you would want to get the bills off the balance sheet. The accounts payable will show up on the P&L. I would try 1 transaction first and make sure everything is where it needs to be, and then go forward from there. I would discourge you away from creating bogus accounts. They can scew with the P&L.

I hope this helps.

Having changed my current account provider, how do I attach the standing order list to the new account without deleting the quicken records for the old account?

At the bottom of the window for each account under cash flow there is a heading "Bills and Standing Orders".
This allows you to plot direct debits, standing orders and regular bills which are then automatically entered into the account data according to the date they are due.
I have changed by current account provider, maintaining for the moment, the previous account details and starting a separate current account for my new provider.
I want to know how I can switch the list from the old account to the new one because when I have the new account window open and then open the Bills and standing order page it is blank and the Standing orders etc. are still being shown in the old account. My business is 6 months old I need to know how to enter the history of the company I have been keeping the books by hand

I would recommend these steps.
1. Go back to the bank statement you received from your bank back to the point where you want to start your company history
2. Set up accounts that fit your type of business or pick from one of the template business accounts they provide. Typically this is automatically done when you first set up quickbooks
3. Open the Quickbooks check register and start entering all the expenses and deposits you made for the past 6 months exactly like you would enter them in a check book register. It's easy but can be time consuming.
That's all there is to Quickbooks. It's a great software program that will show you monthly P&L and I recommend you take the time to set up company budgets so you can know exactly what it cost to run your business. Budgets are under <Company> then <Planning and Budgets> depending on the version you have.

Hope this helps.

Need online manual for sage instants account software as starting new job in week and need to have a look at it first

Looks like Sage wants you to create a free login to their site before allowing you to look at their documentation. Consider linking here

Then search for the manuals you need. You may also find some how-to books at your local library if the product is popular enough.

Having trouble entering bills

There is no Accounts payable module in the Simple Start Version. You have to upgrade to PRO.

QB Pro 07 - I entered an amount due in the Vendors Bills area some weeks back. The bill was &71.45. I paid the bill today and paid $77.45 ($6.00 more than the amount of the original bill due to there...

I would enter a bill for the $6.00. When you paid the original bill and added $6.00, QB simply thought you were overpaying and is probably carrying a $6 credit as a prepay.

Customer billing

Hopefully, you already found this answer elsewhere, but just in case you're still wondering:

Customer should be the owner or member. Then, if you've made the payment "billable" as indicated in your question, you can create an invoice to that customer and use the "Add Time/Cost" function to add the billable expense.

Average handle time

I have created a spreadsheet for you to a) use and b) to learn from.

It is an Automated spreadsheet (as they should be) which calculates the number of minutes in a working week or month and calculates the average time per email giving Daily, Weekly and Monthly Outputs. It takes into account Public Holidays (or for time off). You can use the Output to create Graphs etc to visually display the Output.

It also allows you to calculate a Part Month average.

I have displayed it as it was CONSTRUCTED and as it would be USED.

The As Used worksheet is Protected and the only Inputs that can be done are in the Green Boxes (also the Saturday and Sunday boxes but you will need to Unhide the Validation List to include these and then to add 2 more columns titled Is Saturday? and Is Sunday? with the appropriate If Statement.

To unprotect the sheet go to Tools - Protection - Unprotect. There is no password so leave this blank.

All the workings are still there, the columns are just Hidden. To Unhide them, highlight the columns to the left and right of the hidden columns, click on Format - Columns - Unhide. To hide them again, highlight the columns that you want hidden, click on Format - Columns - Hide.

The LOGIC used (as in Functions) may seem complex but if you read the Descriptions in the first row you should be able to work out what and why it was done that way. Click on a cell to see what Function was used where.

You said that your spreadsheet was becoming a real mess, well I have created a monster for you (but not a mess).

I have uploaded the file to here:

Hope this gives you the push to really start using Excel.
