Print head and cartridges are stuck

Epson printers have a lock to keep the print heads/carts over on the right side. The lock can get stuck and covered in ink. There is a lever under the edge of the heads that should unlock the carriage so you can get to the "cleaning station" under the heads. Unplug the printer while the heads are moving, and you may be able to move them over and clean. Often the bar the heads run on can be lubricated with light oil, like what you use on a sewing machine, too.

This problem has plagued me for a very long time. The issue is that the printer head is "glued" in the resting position under the guard of the printer, so you can't remove the ink cartridges to clean it. Solution is to (I know this sounds stupid, but it works) turn the printer on the side where the printer cartridges are (if they are stuck on the left side, turn the printer on its side so the cartridges are on the bottom). Turn the printer on, and the cartridges magically start moving! I guess there are some sensors that get tricked out when you tip the printer on its side. If the cartridges are still stuck, click the "ok" button, and before it gets a chance to see if you actually fixed the problem, turn the printer off using the power button. It takes a long time, but you should see the ink trap lower (release the ink cartridges) and the ink cartridges start moving to prepare for shutdown! Grab the cartridges when they move out of their hiding place and don't let them go back until you clean the print head so it doesn't get stuck again. Remove the ink cartridges, then push the grey tab to release the print head. Wipe the bottom of the print head clean with rubbing alcohol (it will have a lot of gooey - sticky ink stuck on the bottom). I used nail polish remover since I didn't have rubbing alcohol available. You can also wipe down the ink pad which is where the ink cartridges were previously jammed to clean up more of the mess and prevent this sort of thing happening again too soon. Good luck!

Have you cleaned the print head contacts? If not, try this- open the the front cover with the machine on, the printer cartridges will move to the left and stop-
Don't shut off machine- on the right side of the cartridges you will see a gray handel- holding the bottom of the handel pull it towards you {clock wise} till the lever is in the up position; this will release the print head, next lift the print head (hold the cartridges) up and pull out the assembly.
On the back of the print head you will see copper contacts- clean them with alcohol or other such chemical. Look in machine where the print head was and you will see more copper contacts- carefully wipe them with a contact cleaner.
Reinstall print head, lift gray lever to lock it in.
Close front cover.

1. Check for a paper jam. Paper jams occur when one or more sheets of paper become stuck in the feeding or printing mechanism. Gently remove any jammed paper and reset the printer.
2. Check ink levels. Those ink cartridges run out fast. If your printer looks like it is printing but nothing comes out on the page, you might be out of ink. Try replacing the cartridge and printing again.
3. Check for a clogged print head. If you know you have ink, the print head might be clogged. Navigate to "Control Panel > Printer > Right Click > Properties > Maintenance > Clean Cartridges" to attempt to clean the print head.
4. Reinstall printer drivers and software. If none of the above helps, try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer and software to correct possible software bugs, errors or conflicts.
Canon-Specific Issues
5. Check printer drivers. Navigate to "Control Panel > Printers > Right Click > Properties > Update Driver" to check for a new driver for your printer. You can also find drivers and software on the Canon Support site (see Resources).
6. Resolve the Waste Ink Error. Press menu on the printer and press scan/copy to enter service more. Press the right arrow to access "NVRAM." Set ABS-M level to 0. Set ABS-P level to 0. Press "Stop" to exit.
7. Resolve Wrong Cartridge Message. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord. Remove the cartridges and the print head. Clean the print head in lukewarm water. Set it aside to dry. Clean the contacts gently with an eraser and wipe with a tissue. Reinstall the print head and reinsert the cartridges. Run a cartridge alignment.
8. Resolve E0D02 error. Clean the cartridges and the sender strip. The sender strip is behind the rubber drive belt behind the main hatch. It runs horizontally across the machine. Wipe it gently with a lint free cloth.

did you switch the machine on and off

one of the paper sensors may be stuck pr damaged

Power off the priter.Locate the lever on the right side of the top cover. Pull this lever to open the top. Remove the print cartridge by pulling on its attached release lever. You will now see the printer head.
Clean the printer head by wiping it with a lint free cloth moistened lightly with rubbing alcohol. Replace the print cartridge when the printer head is dry. Replace the cartridge by inserting one end and tilting the other end into the printer until it clicks.
Close the top cover of the printer by pressing down on both sides until the top clicks. Your printer will work now.

try first replace encoder strip, and observe if ink cartridge in normal function.

Be sure to leave the printer ON if you will change the Ink cartridge. If the printer is OFF the printer head will not move.
