During the recording, two "water-streams" (blurred vertical lines) appeared on the left and right of the screen. Unfortunately they appear on the final version of the video as well. As an audio recorder was used a separate device - zoom h4n, which was mounted on top of the camera. Is there a possibility of interference between the devices, or it might be a pure encoding/lense problem?

I had the same problem. Called Canon tech support @ 1-800-828-4040. Was told it is a problem caused by a chip going bad, and that Canon will repair my camcorder free of charge. They send you a couple of emails. You fill out the form, mail your camcorder off for the repair. You should get your ZR85 camera back in about two weeks.

SOURCE: i can't watch any video in any recorded tape,
it happen to me once with a sony camcorder I used to own , you need to reach the VIDEO DRUM HEAD , with a Qtip moistened in a video head cleaner , go directly to the tiny slots and gently rub to remove excesive oxide acumulated that a tape cleaner cant reach, wait a couple minutes so the video head can dry before playing a tape , good luck AJ
