Help with Vertex VX-3200 Programming

I have a Vertex VX-3200 radio and I am trying to program in the channels I want but so far I am stalled at trying to get the computer to read the radio and / or align with the radio. I am using Windows 7 Home Edition and the CE52E (version 4.50). Will these two work together? And if not, what do I need to do to be able to program this radio? Do you have a step-by-step procedure I can use to program this radio? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You may have to find a windows XP or earlier machine. That software doesn't always play well with WIN7

Maybe with the drop the radio speake is out of place, did try to open the radio and find if the speaker is in its correct place? The speaker uses a spring connector and this can be out of place. Good luck

Yes you need a firmware program for that. Do you have a local shop in your area?

SOURCE: can i program my vertex vx10 radio with windows 7

If you're using the CT-42A software, it will require MS-DOS and a REAL serial port to work correctly. You *may* have luck with a quality USB-->Serial adapter and running a CMD / DOS window in Windows 7 if you lower the speed of the serial port to 1200 or so. The operative word here is MAY. It may not work, either. Have a look at this page for info on CT-42A. There's a Programming Help link there that has additional info that may be helpful, too.

If you decide to try, be sure you can READ the memory of the radio before attempting to WRITE. Understand that the ability to READ is no guarantee that you'll be able to WRITE valid data to the radio's memory. The timings from the multitasking Windows environment coupled with the conversion of USB to serial output can cause the read / write operations to fail, this is why you may have better luck slowing the serial port data rate w-a-a-a-a-y down.

If you use a computer running DOS or Windows on DOS such as Win95, and it has a REAL serial port, your chances of success approach 100%. Even booting a modern Windows machine from a DOS bootable disk with the programming software on it is a giant leap in the right direction, you'll only have to tweak the USB-->serial port settings. If this works, you might consider purchasing an expansion card for your PC that provides real serial port hardware.

Lastly, if it is in your budget, scour craiglist for an old notebook or computer that you can use for your DOS based software needs.

Good luck!

You need the Vertex radio programming software for that particular radio model and the programing cable. This is available on the web if you search for it.

How do i put a program in to my Vertex Standard VX-929 VHF 136-174 Mhz radio handheld portable transceiver

Nice commercial quality radio. You will need a commercial radio shop to program it. Otherwise you need the particular programming cable and software for that radio to do the job. The fact that you are asking this means that it more than likely it is beyond your area of expertise. If you searched the web for programming software and also programming cable you might succeed . Otherwise order both from Vertex USA, www.vertex.com. Much easier to go to a shop, BTW you need a valid FCC business or GMRS radio license to transmit.

Low power on vx-3200

No, they are limited to 5 watts and will not go into the Amateur band. Modification of those radios to other uses is illegal.

Problem with Vertex VX-820

Try "reading" the radio before programming it. It sounds like the programming software is using the settings from one radio to write to another. It's highly probable that the firmware is different on the two radios.

It's always a good idea to "read" a radio befor trying to 'write' to it..
