We suggest you first remove all of the ink cartridges from the HP D7160 printer, then attempt the carriage un-jamming instructions as provided by the others above. If the jam still cannot be cleared then either the flex driver cable has a problem or the service station (below carriage assembly) is blocking carriage travel.
For advanced HP D7160 printer diagnostics specific to your printer model, please refer to 'HP Diagnostics Tests' .pdf file at the following Inkjet411 support site link: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1813

Ink roller: Type EA-772R WARNING: APPLYING INK TO WORN INK ROLLER OR USE OF UNAPPROVED INK ROLLER MAY CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO PRINTER. 1) Set the power switch to OFF. 2) Remove the printer cover. (Fig. 1) 3) Hold the top of the ink roller and remove the roller by pulling it toward you and then upward. (Fig. 2) 4) Install the new ink roller in the correct position. Make sure that the roller is securely in place. (Fig. 3) 5) Put back the printer cover.
I assume that you are talking about a Canon Canola P1016D calculator. It uses an ink roller. Very slowly -- they last a long time. I need to replace the roller in mine, so I've been googling like crazy. The solutions I've found have been in Europe -- expensive especially when you include shipping.
1) Pelikan 335685. They are a well-thought of German pen and ink manufacturer link. There is also a 2 pack but given how long they last, a 1 pack seems better. I don't know how to order them in Canada.
2) BCW. They have two listings for this calculator but one is wrong. Here is the right one. It's a 3 pack.
