Question about MP3 & Digital Media Players
Please help, I have had no end of problems with my new ipod. It breaks down every 2nd or 3rd time i connect via usb. I have tried the diagnostic mode to see if it is a hardware issue, but when it prompts to 'detect usb' or 'detect FW' i have no clue as to what im supposed to do. I have tried disconnecting the usb and reconnecting but nothing seems to happen?? Also, im assuming 'FW' means firewire, but im sure the 160gb doesnt have fie wire and if it does what is it and where is it???
Please, please, please help this is driving me insane.
Right-click on your desktop, then click the Advanced tab. Then you should see on the lower left where it says screen resolution. Set this to 1024x768. This will allow you to see the setup assistant.

Hold in play/pause, and then connect to PC
I don't completely understand the "Firweire" reference. The manual (and logic) does not indicate that a firewire connection would work. Plain old USB for this device.

allright i have the same problem and i know how to get it to discharge, reset it then right when you see the apple logo hold previous and center.
then it will take you to the whole systems analysis ******** that they do when you send it in, just go auto test and DONT continue, it wont auto shut off cause of the mode its in. thats what im doing right now.
