My DELL Precision M60 Laptop has problem with Power and it's Battery

Dear Masters,

When you power on the laptop, the power indicator lights up for a couple of seconds and then goes off. Computer makes 1 click noise and that is all.

Sounds like you have a faulty power controller circuit, this circuit controlls both the use of mains and charging the battery and without it your laptop can do neither,  you will need to send this off for repairs. I would check your manufacturer's warranty, if it is within warranty they should fix this for free (unless you have invalidated your warranty in some way)

I have a Dell Precision M60 laptop and the charger adapter's led light is on when i plug it in, but the laptop won't turn on.I've replaced the battery and tried a different charger but that...

Unfortunately it sounds like you have an issue with your motherboard. If you remove the battery and just try to power on the laptop using the AC adapter and it still won't power on then it's probably the motherboard. The power supply circuit (where the AC adapter plugs into) for the motherboard is integrated into the motherboard.
Sorry. If it's still under warranty Dell will replace the motherboard.

How to reset Dell Precision M60 BIOS password

To reset the BIOS read the information from this link.

In case of your laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.

How to remove the cmos battery on a dell precision m60

Here is the link to removing the reserve battery. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/wsM60/SM_En/reserve.htm#1123661
However, if you are trying to bypass a BIOS or HDD password removing the battery will have no effect. Those can only be removed by tech support or a hardware replacement.

Notebook plugged in. cannot get the dell to turn on. its not the power suppy that i plug into wall

1. remove all ext peripherals
2. remove battery
3. plug ac adapter to wall socket power (without the laptop)
4. check if the ac adapter led stays on, if yes then connect the laptop, check if the ac adapter led turns off after connecting to laptop, if not then turn on the laptop if still no power then have replace the motherboard.

AC Problems

Sounds like the DC jack is bad. That is where the AC adapter plugs into the laptop. In order to replace that, the laptop will have to be disassembled and a new DC jack will have to soldered on. One other thing to check is whether the AC adapter is still functional. Get a voltage meter, set it on 200 DC, put the positive on the inside of the plug itself, and the ground on the outside. It should read +/- 20V, usually 19.xx

Dell M60

At the left of your power button, past the word PRECISION, there is a slot for a screwdriver. With the screen fully open, use that slot to remove the power and volume buttons. At the other end of the stip you removed will be the connector that connects the buttons to the motherboard. Reconnect it better.
