Question about Dell Inspiron 8500 Notebook
My dell inspiron e1505 can not play sound. I formated my hand drive and whoosh! the sound seized jaminng. I downloaded chipset, sigmatel and other stuffs -my system keep giving me error.
Anytime choose volume control it response no active Mixer device is available.
Can someone help me? :-(.
If the above solution does not work for some, try reinstalling XP, and then install the drivers in the following order this worked fine for me after working for 2 days to get the sound back:
1) Notebook System Software
2) Chipset Drivers
3) Sound drivers
The order is what is important.
The drivers are available at the Dell Support site.

Thank you so much!!!!!!! You saved me $50 (if not more) and the possibility of the same problem not being corrected. I can't even begin to tell you how many sites I've been on trying to correct this. 2 seconds with your solution, and it's DONE!!!!!!!!!!! If I could, I'd take you out to dinner with the $50. :)

Visit http://support.dell.com, click on drivers and downloads, and then click on the service tag option.... enter the service tag from the bottom side of the laptop... it will then display the list of drivers for that laptop. You will see a list of hardware, each section with a plus symbol to the left of it. Click that to open that section and get the drivers you need. Be sure to read what's there, as some of the downloads aren't drivers. You should be able to find it easily.
Download and install the audio drivers and any other ones that you need.... let me know if that solves it for you. Make sure they are for your laptop model and operating system.
Check in the windows control panel and open the SYSTEM icon. In the pop up window, click the Hardware tab and then click on the device manager but. Any items that need a driver installed will be listed with a yellow ? on it.

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
