Question about Panasonic DMR-E55 DVD Recorder
My 2 year old Panasonic DVD Recorder DMR-E55 started having problems finalizing discs, it just wouldnt do it any more. Now, the last disc I tried to finalize is still in there, presumably still not finalized, and the machine keeps starting its self test when it is turned on. It starts self testing, for about 3 or 4 seconds, then the display goes blank, then it starts again. This goes on forever. I have tried turning off & back on again (the ultimate IT solution) but this didn't make any difference. I cant eject the disc to try starting it with another one, because the machine wont come out of self test mode.
I am surprised to hear that after you replaced the IC, machine is now dead.
I think you should check your soldering, use a magnifying glass to see if you have not broken a track or shorted something.
There are some small parts surface mounted under the board near this chip.
Next , check other soldering , especially on the chopper transformer.
Third, check if you have connected the supply output connector correctly and no pins are bent.

This seems to be a common problem with the E55 and E85 models, could be one of two things, either the RAM Drive or the Power control ic (STRG6353 primary side of PSU), i would suspect its the latter. You'll need an engineer to replace this component.
