Check the high voltage ballast transistor.. see if one of them is burnt... If none.. it could be overheating when supply with current. The ballast transformer supply high voltage for the backlight inverter..If these were overheating then the supply voltage for your monitor will be unstable.
Check also the backlight inverter (cold cathode light) if it is busted.. the function of this backlight inverter is to give display image on the screen.. If these were busted then what you will be seeing is black on your screen. You can also replace this.

The power supply AC adapter power cord is the same as used for PC power cord, local PC repair shop should have them.

SOURCE: SVA VR-17s, I inadvertantly reversed
It difficult to say what thing or things got damaged when they are reversed biased. If you are lucky it could just be a fuse, otherwise there could be a lot of components that could be damaged by the reversal. Only way to know the extend of the damage is to pop open the case and look inside. I would check if it has a fuse first and the condition of it and look for any obvious parts that were blown up. Unless you know how to troubleshoot electronics, it not worth the trouble to try to see if you can fix it considering how affordable LCD monitors have gotten.
