I understand the diagram with the +12v and the gnd wires, but does the third wire only work with other Kenwood products? It appears to be a "sense" wire or similar that feels the presence of a powered-up source unit (cd-player, etc.) what would I send on this wire to use the eq in a different situation? (or is it superfluous)
The third wire is commonly called a "remote" wire and is used to turn on other devices, such as an amp, connected to the audio system. When the equalizer is off, there's no signal on the wire. When the equalizer is on, a low current 12V signal is on the wire, signalling the remote device to turn-on.

Hello, I have a kenwood KGC-7043 EQ. I bought it off of e-bay and it is an older model (1995). It came with a wire harness that does not match the original. It plugs in but all the wires are different colors. How can I identify which is which? thank you, Glen p.s please note the model is kgc-7043
