HP812C and/or Epson LX300+ dot matrix Printers installed to a HP V3431 lap top computer would not print.
I bought our HPV3431 lap top computer last July 14, 2007. OS in the unit is Windows Vista Home basic. I tried to install both HP 812 C deskjet printer and Epson LX 300+ dot matrix printers in the lap top a number of times. The lap top acknowledges the installation, but when actual printing is done, the printer would not work. The dialogue box indicates that there is an error in printing. I was able to locate the HP812 CD installer and tried to install it, but lap top would not read. I consulted a computer technician and I was told that HP 812C desk jet printer and Epson LX 300+ may not yet be supported by Windows Vista. I told the technician that both are included in the list of printers in the ADD/REMOVE funcion of the lap top, and so they must be supported by the OS of our laptop. Will you please help us how we could get the printer operational using our lap top computer?
Thank you for your response.

This is a feature provided by the manufacture to protect the print head overheat for small dot matrix printers. Here giving printer head connection diagram, the last two row have temperature sensing (thermister) connection pin 1 to 1. If the thermister is faulty in the print head the printer will auto pause abnormally. Check the printer with compatible / EPSON recommended print head. These kind of small printer only for POS printing not for continues printing.
You need to reset the board, all dot matrix have some kind of a chip set as well that mostly can be remove. Just make sure you are grounded, its a last resort that I normally do for dot matrix that can't seems to stop printing or the panel are always lights on.
I used to use an LX300 and have never had this problem. I'm not sure what unclear means so I will just do some guessing. Clarity of the print depends on 3 things, software, printhead and ribbon. These are your problem areas. Epson has an option to print NLQ or near letter quality. So that should give more clarify. I basically double prints the same letter to create a darker image. The printhead, if your printer is really old, you need to either find someone to refurbish the printhead or buy a new printhead because it could be the impact pins are bent and not giving the strongest image. Lastly the ribbon, obvsiously the more used the ribbon is the weaker the image. So either re-ink the ribbon or buy a new ribbon cartridge. Hope this helps.
use the com1, and use a baud rate like 9600, with 8 and 1 bit stop. dont. be sure that is in ESC/P or IBM as you requiered. if your software use directly the serial port, be sure that the bios set up is properly. i think that the lx300+ have less buffer than lx300+2 and if you use high speed, could loose info.
Hi, you may want to reset/restore the Epson LX300 to default settings. This can be done by pressing down on the FONT button while powering on the printer. If done right the LX300 will print a test page with the firmware version.
It is also possible that the drivers are corrupted. In Start, Printers & Faxes, delete the LX300 printer, restart your PC and then re-install via Add Printer.
In some cases, defective parallel cable can also cause problems. Unfortunately the only sure way of checking is by replacing the printer/parallel cable with a known good/operation cable.
If the printer would really be requiring service, a Service Manual is available at (http://www.eserviceinfo.com/index.php?what=search2&searchstring=DPA-300)
Hope this be of some help to you. Good luck and pls post again how things turn up.
