Question about Brother MFC 420CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Brother MFC 5460CN

I replaced black and yellow cartridges, and then "LCD screen ONLY asked if I had ( changed the Cyan cart.?)Before I noticed it, I pressed the "Yes" button, and re-set and went to cleaning phase.
BUT; Immed. after that-( and printer was working Perfect just prior.),Now it will ONLY Print items in Severe BLUE Hues ONLY???..
I cannot see any "Re-Set button Nor in its control panel/properties, and have manual re-set and tried to alter color saturations/densities/and also "turned Off the ' True to Life setting' Also", on top of everything else I could possibly think of-on top of re-setting to "defaults"-None of which worked at All..??..
Everything I "Now try to Print", is saturated with Heavy "Blue Colors" and cannot alter it Nor get it back to former fine performing state at All.???HELP....:)Thanx

Re: Brother MFC 5460CN

Sounds like you put less than premium inks in that were not real good for your printer or were they brother carts)?

If not then you could try new brother carts and a few cleans in the hope of flushing the print head.

Brother MFC-5460CN won't scan because cyan ink empty

Brother is telling us that sometimes the cartridge can be installed too fast causing it not to read. Install it slowly to see if that helps. Also, power down, remove all the inks and power up. Add the inks one at a time when it asks.

Replacing the cart holder on a Brother MFC 240C

Somethings that have worked for some Brother owners to get cartridges recognised.

1. With your MFC powered up, open it up and remove the cartridge you are having a problem with, then close the MFC, leaving it powered up. It should report that there is no cartridge in the machine.

Still with the MFC powered up, open it up and reinsert the ink cartridge, then close the MFC. It should either ask if you have replaced a cartridge or go into its cleaning mode.

Answer "yes" to "have you replaced cartridge?" and it should either "print" or "clean" and then "print".

2. The cartridge holder in the printer has an "electronic eye" (light sensor) of some type for each cartridge.
Some users have found that putting either permanent marker/sharpie/black PVC tape either on the area of the ink cartridge that goes near the sensor or alternatively putting tape over the sensor itself allows printing to occur.
The problem with this method is that the printer will no longer recognise near-empty cartridges and so will not warn you to replace them and so the print head may be damaged. This is said to work on LC57 icartridges used with the following models: DCP-330C, DCP-350C, DCP-540CN, DCP-560CN, FAX-2480C, MFC-240C, MFC-440CN, MFC-465CN, MFC-665CW, MFC-685CW, MFC-885CW, MFC-3360C, MFC-5460CN, MFC-5860CN.

Ink problems....

Take all carts out of the machine. Have a look into the cart holder. Is there ink swapping beneath the white plastic? (You might shake the machine ;-)

If yes, the cart holder leaks and needs replacement.

If not (your lucky!) it could be that the automatic cleaning procedure which starts when a cart is changed has soaked the carts empty.

Do set machine with date and time and NEVER unplug NOR use a power switch which breaks the power supply.

Do use constant power and switch off machine by pressing stand-by-fax-button!

Everytime when machine comes to (new) power contact it runs an extensive ink cleaning procedure. thats why your carts are always near empty....
The stand-by will prevent this and machine does some cleaning procedures which consumes only a few drops(!) of ink!

The display asks you if you have changed the carts. Do answer this question by pressing 1 for YES or 2 for NO.
This will reset the built-in inkcountermanagement to the correct settings

MFC-420cn printer says install cartridge. But there is a new one just installed.

by useing original brother carts instead of poor designed generic ones.

Or by answering the lcd-display question if you have changed the cart.

or by making sure that the plastic nose secures the cart which was placed well into the holder.

If that doesnt work, the circuit board might be defective.

Unplug machine from power outlet. take all carts out. leave cover open. wait 5 min. plug machine to power and close cover. machine will demand carts. reinsert carts and answer question given on display.

If you still have trouble this might be due to the generic carts which have not the right construction. use original carts.

Brother MFC 5460CN Won't Print w/ Full Black Cartridge

What type of machine do you run?!! MFC420 or mfc 5460?!!
Is it a machine with LC51 or LC41 carts?

In both way: Did you check the other carts? It could be that there is another one empty.

Did you stick the tape at the right place, too? The tape should be a bit larger than shown on the pic.
For the LC51 it it the same position.

Did you answer the printers question of changing the cart with YES?

Ink cartridges....

Which cart arent recognized? The yellow one or the cyan(blue) one or both?

Unplug machine from power. Wait three minutes. In this time take all carts out and close cover. reconnect machine to power. Machine demands carts. Open cover. Reinsert carts. Make sure that the support clip of the cart.holder is secured above the cart cover.

If you still have probs with one cart. the led contact on the circuit board is defectiv. You need a new cart holder then, which can be ordered as a spare part from a service partner near your home (see brother homepage).

Unplug printer from power. Wait a minute. Take all carts out. Plug machine to power. mfc demands carts. Reinsert carts (have a look if they all filled with ink!!). If asked press 2 (No change) despite you use a new cart press 1 Yes cart changed.

Should work!
