I installed a autostart remote start with a express kit bypass for the key sense on a 1999 gmc jimmy 4.3L automatic 4x4 and when I remote start the jimmy the service eng. light comes on and when I drive off the transmission wont shift. Hooked up the code reader and got 3 tranny codes. cleared them and drives fine. remote start again and codes and problems return. What did I do wrong.
This is one deal that's kinda sad because you tried and it works to a point but now it's not good b honest probably should of left this one to guy that does this kind of work everyday I'm not perfect and do not claim to b but I also know when it comes to things I don't know or done I will not perform the job until I'm fully educated on the specifics of the job well I guess u better take it to the car audio guy and get the wiring straightened out or you will have more problems than u can shake a stick at !!!! Ok the best thing u can take from this is you are not afraid to fail which I commend u so when u take your truck in b a sponge ask questions and you will figure out why this happened I hope you are not upset because I did not spend this much time typing for u to b upset u seem to have a great attitude and I'm sure you will b fine so b cool you will go far I know it Chris
SOURCE: My 99 GMC Jimmy has the service 4X4 light on and
I own a Jimmy and have done quite a bit of 4 wheel drive repair on it.
The first thing i would check is the 4x4 selector switch. I know for a fact that these will throw a service 4x4 code if they are unplugged or shorted. They sell for 50-60$ or you may find one at a local salvage yard for cheaper.
Taking this out and checking it only takes a few seconds, just simply pop the switch out of the dash with the edge of your pocket knife.
After you get it out theres a few more tabs surrounding the back plate, and this is where the circuit board is located. I would inspect it visually to make sure nothing looks corroded and also take a sniff of it to insure there isn't a burnt smell.
If it were the 4x4 actuator the lights would still illuminate on the selector switch, it just wouldn't engage the 4x4.
You'r problem is all electrical trust me .

Hi
Well two of the tranny codes ; P0734 and PO732 indicate gear 2,3,4 ratio incorrect. This can be caused by poor readings at the input and output speed sensors or pulse generators. The P1709 code is in reference to the kickdown servo switch.
Replacing the pulse generator set and TCM reprogramming( as per TSB) may solve your problem, otherwise you have a major component failure in the transmission unit. I would get some line pressures at the transmission checked first.
Sounds like the transmission is in fail safe mode, this happens when there is a transmission fault, you only have two gears 2nd and reverse.
Hope this helps - Steve

What kind of a dealer are you going to . If what you are saying is correct the MIL light is on then what you need to do is find out what code is making the light come on it will have a # P0 - - - the MAF or mass air flow sensor on this vehicle would be P0102 or P0103 its the first sensor and a main sensor that would create a lot of driveably problems but the code would be there . How the dealer got from the maf to replaceing the transmission and ovesely that was not the problem and now it telling you you need a new alternator is eighter criminal or complete incompants. Find out what the code is and i will tell you what is wrong with it and don't go back to that dealer you didn't need any of these parts . Any auto parts store will read these codes at no charge for you this is why the OBD 11 system is there and is standard on all vehicles with a few exceptions in the us but not your vehicle and regulated by the federial goverment . I work on vehicles and owen one a blazer my self witch is the same thing as a jimmy. And you are getting riped off pier_j
I had the same problem with my 1999 Silverado which would blink several times on the mode I selected then go back to the 2 wheel High. I found the switch module to be defective, after replacing it I have never had the problem again.
