Nikon d3100 stuck on flash mode

My camera display is stuck on 'flash mode'. Nothing I press changes it, although it will fleetingly and randomly return to the usual display, but then return to 'flash mode' display. Nothing seems to change it and whilst it is in flash mode none of the buttons work. Thanks

Smacking the camera worked, but it does not last. Is there a permanent fix? If the CCD lens shuttle, is there a way to clean or lossen it up?

It works! I followed the suggestion of the guy who said to turn it off and hit it lightly couple of times face down and it is fine! Thank You!

What do you mean by flash mode?
Have you read the manual how to use the camera?
If nothing from there helps, try connecting it via USB and check if there is firmware update. If even that doesn't help, try acessing menu and doing hard reset from there.

With the power off, hold the camera in your palm and smack the front of the camera on your leg or arm. You might have to smack it a few time to get it to work. It has to do with the camera CDD lense (shuttle) being stuck. By smacking it around, it will free up the lense. Being extra gentle with it though. It worked for me. Hope this help.

SOURCE: Nikon CoolPix Flash Problem

This happened to me too!
Turn the dial to setup, push the menu button & select reset all. This will restore the defaults & let you use the flash again.

SOURCE: Flash not working

I figured out how to fix the flash... but not the clicking sound in the lens. To fix it... click the mode button, then go to the settings icon
(the arrow pointing at the wrench), then keep going down to the reset all part. and click okay while your on it. Your flash should work after that!

Nikon D3100 won't flash

If you have set the main dial to the green camera logo, with automatic in bad light, and the flash still does not pop up, you could start worrying. The mail mode dial is very easy to turn, even without knowing. It happens to me more often than I would like. My next camera must have a special button to lock this dial.
When you chaco the manual, you will see there are settings the flash won't pop up and even when it is up it won't flash, because that menu excludes the flash.

Are there any problems usig a Quantaray PZ-1 DSZ flash with the Nikon D3100?

There is no problem with the trigger voltage, which I assume is your primary concern. You may not get all of the features you would with a Nikon flash, but you should be able to use it with the D3100 just as you use it with the N80.

My NIkon D3100 does not make a sound anymore when he's ready to take a picture although in the menu the signal is on. When I change the signal from on to off and back again, he does give that sig

See if you can reset the electronics and restore the unit to factory defaults. If no result and if Nikon does not have a hidden code to fix situation you will either have to live with the situation, replace the camera, fix the camera (not cost effective.) Your choice.

I have a nikon d3100. i.can not get it off of auto focus i have it in m a s and p but it will not adjust

The M, A, S, and P settings control the exposure and have nothing to do with focusing. To change the autofocus mode, press the [i] button to bring up the information screen, cursor down to the fifth item from the top along the right edge, press the OK button, then select the desired focus mode.

Some time internal flash does not work in my nikon D3100 camera

When in program and manual mode, you will have to set it to flash. Make sure the circle around the electric bolt on the screen does not have a line through it, and it should work. There is usually a button with the symbol on it somewhere around the lcd(I'm not very familiar with your model or I'd tell you where) or it may be in the on screen menus if it's not a button around the screen.

How to install a Nikon SB-700 AF Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

Basically, you put batteries into the flash, put it into the flash mount on the top of the camera, turn everything on, select a flash mode, and start shooting.
The flash comes with a detailed manual describing its operation. There is a section in the camera manual describing the various flash modes. The SB-700 is fully compatible with the Nikon iCLS system, which includes the D3100.

Since you asked a general question, I can only give you a general answer. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask them.

My D3100 will not autofocus or take pictures even if the lens is set to Auto Focus. If the lens is set to Manual, all works well. How do I get auto focus to work again

Go to your settings when your in shooting-mode (Press the 'i' button on the bottom left).
There, change your focus mode from MF to AF-S or AF-C or AF-A.
Should work.
