Question about Sharp Aquos LC-45GX6U 45 in. HD-Ready LCD Television
I am at a real loss. I bought this television off of ebay not realizing that I need the avc unit to make it fully operational. It is only a monitor until I find the unit or some other compatable unit for it. Sharp doesn't sell it any more...... Any suggestions?
You should be able to use this with only the DVI connection as just a large monitor. You can use a DVI to HDMI adapter as I do believe the display is HDCP compliant. Many AV receivers will upscale to the necessary 1920x1080p resolution that the display needs.

Ladyye is looking at a 480 resolution image. The adapter does work as proven by an image on the monitor screen. The monitor can not resolve the signal.
You must provide a 1080 signal or the picture will either not display or display junk.
A HTPC with a video card that resolves 1080 or an upconverting A/V receiver or a game console that delivers 1080 or any source that can send 1080 to the monitor is required.
To use a HTPC as a tv tuner for the monitor it will have to include a tuner card or some other means to input television broadcasting. Cable tv can be processed through a tuner card but that includes some caveats as well.
Get good information about tuner cards and the cable system used before purchasing.

You should contact Sharp directly at 800-237-4277 as they may be able to get you the AVC box. They do not sell it on any website - just thru the support line.

The DVI to HDMI adapter doesn't work with my TV. It looks like it isn't converting correctly, as i only see a small box in the upper left hand corner with lines. The DVI connection works fine with my imac, but i want to be able to watch my cable tv. ANy other suggestions?
