How can I replace the cooling unit of the refrigerator?
We are Arcticold refrigeration, we manufacture brand new replacement cooling units for Dometic & Norcold RV fridges. Our cooling units all come standard with install instruction, installation hardware, and a lifetime warranty. Feel free to give us a call to free 1-888-782-6665 I can send you the install instructions by email if you would like to take a look at them. In most cases it takes approximately 2 hours to change the cooling unit. I will also need the model number of Refrigerator you have. Visit ArctiCold Refrigeration We keep it cold for some info. Below is a example of one model of cooling unit we build. It is a Dometic RM2852 shown in the picture.

Make sure the thermister is attached firmly to the fins in the back. The boards on a Norcold can be reset a service center familiar with this process is your best bet. It takes disconecting the board and then shorting it out best to leave it to some one who is familiar.

I have the same problem and I'm not going to pay 500 dollars to get it fixed. That's why i go to these forums.
SOURCE: Unit cools fine on 120V, selecting GAS CHECK light on.
Do you hear a clicking sound If not. there is a black box inside the out side door. Check the fuses in it.

Hi,
Many recalls for both dometic and Norcold have been issued in the past. There is a chemical called sodium chromate in the solution that
circulates inside the cooling unit. It is there to prevent the
ammonia/hydrogen/water solution from corroding the steel tubing. If a
leak develops, this chemical changes from a liquid state to a powder in
the presence of air. A yellow / green residue on the outside of the cooling unit
indicates a leak. And the cooling unit is bad....... Also if the unit
sat for a long period of time UNLEVEL then you could have blockage, the
refrigerator depends on gravity to move the solutions through the system
once the heat source has lifted the solutions to the top of the cooling
unit. The passages that the solution must travel through have only a
slight slope to them and any off-level condition will hinder this
gravity flow.I would rather advise you to call the manufacturer and check if there is any recall. Unless, they could tell you the quote to change the cooling system. You could take a decision from there. A thumb rule - if the cost of the repair is more than half of the cost of the product, it is wise to switch to a new unit.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
