Re: How do I Replace the bellow on a Kenmore 4646

There is a spring that holds the gasket on .Pop that spring off and the gasket should come very easy.

Torn rubber gasket

The front door seal is referred to as the "bellow". They do wear out with age and can also become mishapened from repeated pressure from the door being closed. Over time the bellow can stretch or develop rips and tears and begin to leak. If the bellow is leaking, or no longer sealing correctly, the following link explains how to replace one:

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

All these sites are reputable and offer great service with competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites I listed also include helpful exploded view parts diagrams to assist you in locating and properly identifying the parts you need.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: If you leave the door OPEN between washes this will help prevent constant pressure on the door seal which can stretch it out of shape over time. It is also beneficial to allow the wash tub to air out to prevent mold and mildew from forming. Also DO NOT overload the washer. This can contribute to premature wear of the door bellow and cause rips and tears.

My ht3 #4292 is leaking water from the door

If water is coming through the door bellow and into the tub and not the floor, this is commonly caused by a water inlet valve that is leaking by or a pressure switch malfunction. The following link explains how to diagnose the problem to determine which one is causing your problem:

I included parts resources and instructions on how to replace each component as well.

If you have water leaking on the floor, you may also have a bellow with a rip or tear. If the bellow is leaking, it must be replaced. Pull back the rubber folds and inspect the entire perimeter around the door to be sure. If the bellow needs replaced, the following link explains how:

If you have any questions about any of these repairs, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

The rubber gasket that keeps the seal when the door is closed has a tear in it, is it easy to replace??

Replacing the rubber gasket (bellow) is not a difficult process. If you are attempting to replace the door bellow on a Whirlpool front loader, the following link explains step-by-step how to replace one:

Read through the link provided and let me know if you have any questions.

NOTE: There is another method you may try as well. Although I do not prefer this next method because these washing machines are heavy, an alternative way of replacing the door bellow is to remove the lower toe panel and tilt the washer back at a 45 degree angle instead of removing the washer front panel. If you use this method, make sure it rests against the wall and will not tip forward. This allows the wash tub to drop down and away from the front panel and gives you access to the the rear bellow clamp through the bottom. This can save you some time. Thanks to user DGBG for the helpful tip!

If you would like some helpful exploded view diagrams of your washer that you can reference, you can use any of these web sites:

Just use your model number to begin your search criteria.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: These door seals do wear out and require replacement from time to time. However, overloading the washer to the point where items get caught in the door area can contribute to premature wear and tear.

Washer is leaking

Check the rubber bellow (gasket) around the door. This is the symptom of a door gasket that it starting to leak. Pull the rubber folds back and check the area where the gasket attaches to the wash tub. You may have a crack or tear. If the gasket is worn please replay back to this post and I can give you advice on how to replace it and where to get a replacement gasket.

Washer tub slowly fills with water

Is your problem a SLOW FILL problem, or a problem with WATER DRIPPING FROM THE RUBBER DOOR SEAL - or BOTH? If you have a slow fill problem, this is generally caused by a bad fill valve, which can be attributed to hard water deposits or well water mineral deposits. Sometimes the fill valve can be removed, cleaned and reinstalled, but most of the time a new fill valve is required. If you are experiencing water leaking from the rubber door seal (bellow), it may be time to replace it. Sometimes the seal can develop a wrinkle or crease where it meets the glass, which can cause leaks. Water dripping from the door when you open after washing a load is normal. Water dripping during a load is NOT. The bellow may also have started to rip or tear inside the door which may not be noticeable until you pull the folds of the bellow back and look underneath it. I hope this helps.
