Thanks for visiting FixYa!
From your explanation, it sounds like you've downloaded an app or program that has a driver conflict with the phone's operating system. You may need to flash your phone's ROM (operating system) with a new updated version to get it to work properly again. Since you didn't include who your cellular carrier is, I'm going to assume that it is AT&T. If the phone is not an AT&T Branded phone, disregard these instructions.
This phone is also called the HTC Tilt 2 (AT&T) and there is a new ROM download for the phone which should solve your problem. You'll need to follow the directions EXACTLY to flash your phone's ROM - and I do mean exactly!
This software update is intended for the HTC Tilt 2 for AT&T only
and users should not load or attempt to load this version on any other
device as it may cause serious issues/damage.
Please
note that during the update process, the device will be Hard Reset and
anything that is NOT part of the Operating System (contacts, calendar,
music, etc) will be permanently deleted; always make a point of backing up your device's data on a regular basis!
Before you proceed, please confirm that this software upgrade is a newer
version than what is currently loaded on your device. If it is the same
version and your device is operating normally, there is no need to
reload the software.
To
determine the software version running on your device, go to Start >
Settings > System Folder > Device Information > Software
Information.
Validate that the ROM version is 2.10.502.4 if it is not, you will need to update the software on you device.
Before you run the ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU), make sure you check and do the following first:
- USB
sync cable is connected to your device and PC to establish a connection
with Activesync/Windows Mobile Device Center. If you don't have
ActiveSync installed on your PC already, the CD found inside your
handset box can be used to install the application. If you lost the
disk, please go to www.microsoft.com
>Downloads & Trials> Windows Mobile Downloads and download
the appropriate application (ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center)
depending on your PC's OS. You will also need Outlook or Outlook
express installed in order to backup your contacts, calendars, e-mail,
tasks etc.
- Remove
your storage card prior to running the upgrade. Do not put it back into
your phone until after the upgrade process is complete.
- The standby and hibernation modes are disabled on the computer.
- All running applications on the computer have been closed.
- Ensure
that you device has a battery level of at least 50% (Start >
Settings > System Folder > Power > Battery) If the battery
"dies" during the upgrade process, there is a chance that the device
will not recover and will need to be sent to HTC for repair.
- The update can take several minutes so set aside time when you will not be interrupted.
- Do
Not interrupt the upgrade process or press any buttons on the device
until the process has been completed (the device will reset itself when
the update is done).
- Warning:
Installing this update will erase all data stored on the device,
restoring your device to the factory default settings. Please be sure to
back up any important files to preserve your data.
General Procedure on Installing the ROM Update
- Back
up your personal data from the Mobile Device to your computer using
ActiveSync (Windows XP or sooner)/Windows Mobile Device Center (Windows
Vista and Windows 7) or a 3rd party backup utility if you want to ensure
you don't lose any of your data.
- If
using a 3rd party backup utility, be sure that you are not backing up
the Registry as this will cause issues once restored to the device after
the update.
- You
will need to reload any 3rd party applications manually. Once you have
created your backup file, be sure to copy the backup file to a storage
card (ensure that Storage Card Encryption has been disabled on the
device if you have enabled it) or to your PC before proceeding with the
ROM update.
- On your computer, click on the Download link (below) and save the file to your desktop.
- Establish a connection between ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center and your device using the provided USB Data cable.
- Locate
the ROM file (the one you saved in step 2 above) on your PC and
double-click on the file to run the ROM Update Utility (RUU) to install
the ROM update to your Mobile Device.
- Follow
the RUU Wizard prompts. When presented with the readme screen, please
read the Readme since it provides a lot of valuable information on the
upgrade process and what you can expect during the upgrade process.
Check the box beside the "I understand the caution indicated above and
has reviewed the Readme" and then press Next to continue. The remaining
steps will typically involve checking the check box and pressing the
Next or Upgrade button until the upgrade is completed.
- Restore
your personal data back to your Mobile Device using ActiveSync/Windows
Mobile Device Center or the 3rd party backup utility you selected.
