Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-42WE655 42" Rear Projection HDTV

I have a SONY GRAND WEGA KDG-42WE60

I have a yellow splotch with 2 strings from it on the lower right hand side of the picture. This tv is used very little in the three years + that I've had it, however two bulbs have been replaced.

This is a common problem for SONY LCD projection TVs. The problem is burned evaporated metal layer on the RGB color lenses. To fix it, you have to purchase a new light engine.

The color is distorted on the lower left hand side of the TV, or maybe distorted is not the correct wording. It looks like there is a yellow haze in that corner...

Picture has become darker and darker, but now there is no picture or sound a red flashing red light in the lower right hand corner.
Time to replace lamp in tv.
Existing lamp in tv is dead and tv needs new lamp to work again.
Lamp replacement procedure is easy and written in user manual of tv.

DEVOLPING YELLOW LINE ON SCREEN
The yellowing of Sony’s KDF-60WF655 rear projection is a problem with the SXRD optical engine. This turned out to be a big problem on many of the SXRD TV's. Sony actually had a class action lawsuit that covered the optical engine for 5 years. My unit was replaced in June of last year (2009) about 1 month before the coverage ended. My unit had a bad yellow streak on the right hand side. Sony no longer covers the cost of replacement, as the class action suit has now expired. Sorry for the bad news. Its not clear if a new optical engine will suffer the same fate after a few years. Sony’s rear projection TV's are amazing and the picture rivals many of today’s LCD's and Plasma's. Any authorized Sony Tv repair shop will no exactly your problem and will be able to give you a fixed price to repair.

You have pretty much narrowed it down to being a bad optical block. This isn;t good news, since the optical block is probably the most expensive part in the set. Your best bet is to contact Sony customer support to see if the will allow some kind of accommodation for the repairs. Sorry for the bad new; hope it doesn't effect the rating you give me for the solution. Thanks!

Tv does not come on instantly when powered up
on these models either lamp or lamp driver(ballast)is defective or both,would suggest to change both at same time..however cost may be prohibitive.
