All of a sudden my Archos unit is not working with the DVR station. When I attach it to the docking station, it will power on, but after a few seconds the archos shuts off (no power or charge light at all) and when I go to the VideoCorder menu function I get the Archos information screen telling me that the DVR station must be used to access that function. The unit is able to still charge with the USB cable, but is completely unresponsive to the DVR station. I have reset the Archos unit and turned power to DVR station off and on again. Any ideas out there on how I can get this working again?

The Archos 404 attaches to the TV using either a DVR Station or a special AV cable. The AV cable uses a special small audio-style mini plug on one end to the standard red, white and yellow composite video connectors on the other. The docking station can record from and playback to the TV. The DVR Station 5 uses S-Video and red/white RCA plugs for connection to the TV. Optionally you can use the yellow/red/white composite connections instead. Hook it up similarly to a VCR, input from the cable box to the input of the DVR Station and output of the DVR Station to the input of the TV.
The dvr station must sit in the middle of the signal transfer from the box to the tv, so connect the Xbox to the dvr station and then connect the dvr station to the tv. You will have to enaure that the DVR station is always powered on so that the signal will pass through it. to record simply select the record option on the 604
If you mean will the Gen 5 DVR Station Remote work with a Gen 4 DVR
Station, I believe it will for at least the basic player controls on
your 604 (except for the alpha keyoard entry because the Gen 4 players
did not have this feature enabled).
If you mean, will the Gen 5 DVR Station Remote control your Archos 604
directly (without a dvr dock), the answer is no, you must have a DVR
Station for the remote to work on any Archos player.
I had the problem that the record feature was not available in or out of the docking station and therefore i could not record. Archos connector on bottom of unit senses a change in the resistance of the device it's docked with and knows if it's the DVR station or not.
Turned out to be a hardware fault - i had to RMA both the Archos and the docking station (while in warranty) and Archos fixed it/them.
That may not help you much.
PS: I think i zapped my DVR station with static one day and that might have been the original cause.
i had this problem recently when charging on the DVR docking station, i switched it off, took the battery off, left it for a shirt time then pressed the reset, it took a few attempts but eventually it restarted
hi there, it should be easy, if your wanting to record off the tv/dvd or video you need to plug (lets say your using phono leads, the ends with red, white, yellow on them) into the output on the video (or what ever the device) the on the docking station plug them into input. then on the archos go to the videocorder n away you go. hope this has help`d
It sounds to me like there's an Component A/V cable issue. Please re-check the cable connections making sure they are connected correctly. When using the docking station and Component A/V cables you must be sure the cables are connected with their corresponding colors on the back of the DVR Docking Station. Also check that the format of the recording is compatible with the "TV Standard" in the settings menu of your Archos. It will be either NTSC (USA) or PAL (Europe). Be sure to check the Video Output Settings of the Archos to be sure it is set to the same type of cables you are using- component, RGB, s-video or composite. Good luck!
If the camera accessory is not functioning correctly you may need to check a few things before considering a return of the camera unit. First, read the included documentation for the Archos 604 and the camera accessory and make sure they are compatible. If you are talking about a digital camera that you take photos with, you need the DVR Docking Station, or the Traveling A/V Docking Station for camera/usb connectivity. Both of these accessories are available at Archos.com. I suggest that if you want your problem answered better, you need to be more detailed in explaining it, and have more details as to what difficulties you're having.
