Question about Hitachi 60V500 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
I was told by a greedy tech it's a 1600$ fix, and that an the blue LCD is not working... Anyway to fix it, without replacing the whole drive/motor/board, I forget...
Anyway I can isolate the chip or other part that caused this?
The TV is only 3 yrs old, and when the lamp died, we put in a new one and the problem started. Now we are getting faint spotting on the screen, most distinct when the background is black, and you see red spots...
You have a defective light engine and you DO NOT have to pay $1600. Hitachi is aware of this problem and if you call their Customer Relations Department at 800-654-7013, they will give you names of certified dealers in your area. Now when you first call them and tell them that after researching this online and you belive it's a defective light engine, they will act like they know notheing about it but will give you the dealers to call to have them come out and diagnos he problem. It took our tech less than a minute to say it was a defective light engine. We called Hitachi back and all of a sudden, they admitted to knowing about the problem.
Hitachi will then call the dealer and once it's a confirmed light engine problem, they will send out a brand new light engine to the dealer to come out and install. Now, Hitachi will cover the part (around $1500) but they will ask you to pay for the install if your TV is not still under warranty. Our warranty was expired so we paid $400 for the install. Worth it to us being that we paid $3600 for the TV 3 years ago. Please deal only with their Customer Relations Department as the regular customer service department will have you chasing your tail and use a certified dealer. They will not rip you off...and you should not have to pay $1600...only the install! Good Luck!

VARIAN'S SOLUTION STILL WORKS EVERYONE!!! I have had my tv for over 4 years now and it is way out of warranty. But just yesterday I took Varian's advice just incase it might work and it did!! Granted that you must be strong in your tone that you are not happy with this problem because I had to talk to 3 consecutive superiors. Then one put me on hold and came back soon after saying that Hitachi will ship the engine light that I needed to the repair company at no cost to me. So even if they say, "sorry, we can't do anything for you because your tv is out of warranty", DON'T FALL FOR IT. Just ask for their superior and continue that until they give you the part. THANKS VARIAN!!!

In canada, hitachi will cover only 50% of the part...better than nothing i guess

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
