Once you have found that the shaft is locked, and not spinning...
by hand you should be able to rotate the auger.
Then once the holes are lined up, using a drift pin punch no bigger than the holes, knock out the shear pin (broken?) and replace with a new shear pin or rolled pin.

Good Luck

With the motor OFF, the shaft shouldn't rotate, so you should be able to rotate the auger by hand until the holes line up.

How can I remove the auger assembly to remove the augers so I can drill out remaining piece of shear pin?

You could take off the side panels of the Auger Housing and that should allow you to slide the auger off the shaft.
If you rotate the auger to see in the Sheer pin hole, can you see the remaining part in there? Sometimes the Pin will sheer AND the auger will rotate on the shaft a little bit which prevents you from getting a new pin to pass all the way thru both the auger and shaft. Make sure this did not happen in your case. I'm surprised you cannot get a Drift and knock the remaining piece of pin all the way thru. Again, make sure you issue is that the pin is stuck and not that the auger shifted a bit

How to replace shear pin horizontal blades spin free motor won't drive them

Look close to the middle of the auger. you should see small ( 1/4") holes where the shear pins were. Just line up the holes from shaft to Auger and put new Shear pins in there. Sometimes they look like Clevis pins and sometimes they look like a simple 1/4" bolt and nut

Both augers turn when not trying to clean snow,as soon as I try to use it and snow gets to the augers, only one auger moves on my ariens 520 snowblower

It sounds like the auger always turning is the auger engagement handle/line/connections are not adjusted correctly. They/it is too tight causing the auger to engage before it should. It may be up at the handle where you loosen a jam nut, screw in or out a threaded shaft, and retighten the jam nut. (If you have ever adjusted a bicycle brake it is similar.) (I have a craftsman, made by MTD, and I think I saw MTD also list Ariens.) Or it could be an adjustment somewhere else (but I'm not sure where).

As far as one auger moving and the other not, you may have a shear-pin (shear bolt as the manual calls them) on each side of the auger's shaft (my craftsman has one on each side), and the one on the side that stops turning is sheared off. (It moves without snow present due to the driveshaft inside the outer auger shaft turning, but it won't turn under load (snow).) You may confirm a sheared-pin by turning the machine off and try to turn the auger blade. If it turns somewhat easily, that's a bad shear pin. Remove the old shear pin. If the old one is as long as the new one, that aint the problem. The shear pin in the image is one kind. Mine appear as a straight bolt (no grooves), threaded the entire length. You will have to rotate the auger blade until it aligns with the hole in the shaft. Use a nail that fits and rotate the blade until the nail goes in. Remove the nail and screw in the shear bolt:

The auger clutch control up at the handle looks like this:

Auger Control
  • To check the adjustment of the auger control, push forward the left hand clutch grip until the rubber bumper is compressed. There should be slack in the clutch cable.
  • Release the clutch grip. The cable should be straight. Make certain you can depress the auger control grip against the left handle completely.
  • If adjustment is necessary, loosen the hex jam nut and thread the cable in (for less slack) or out (for more slack). Recheck adjustment. Tighten the jam nut when correct adjustment is reached.
Here's another view of that:

I hope the above info helps you take care of both issues.

I have a Yamaha ys 626 snowblower - how do I fix a non moving auger?

Most snow blowers have a "shear pin", (or roll pin) that links the auger to the drive shaft. It is there in case you strike something hard with the auger. The shear pin will break and protect the auger, the engine, and the operator. The shear pin can be purchased anyplace that services snow blowers, and it can be replaced by the owner.

Left auger does not engage/spins freely

The shear pin is sheared off. Somewhere along the auger, you'll find a hole drilled all the way through it. The shaft inside also has a hole drilled all the way through it. Compare the two augers - the holes are USUALLY in a straight line with each other (when one is up/down, the other is also up/down).

Get a replacement shear pin (DO NOT use a hardened bolt!) and put it through the holes when the auger holes are lined up with the axle holes.

Mtd yardmachine snow blower 305 cc auger wont turn

This is a fairly frequent problem that is easily fixed. What happened was the snowblower's auger was either overloaded or got jammed (ice, debris - something other than snow). Rather than twist, damage or break the auger itself, an inexpensive part called a "shear pin" is designed to fail. A shear pin employed between the auger sleeve and drive shaft that is inside the sleeve. You may have broken one if one side of the auger spins) or both (if both sides of the auger spins). Purchase several replacements for your particular machine to have on hand. Do NOT replace s shear pin (or shear bolt) with a regular bolt under any circumstances! Check the video linked below on how to replace the shear pins. Good luck!

Right side of snowblower is constantly clogged with snow

Check the R.H. auger my guess is you have a shear pin that has broken and needs to be punched out and replaced. If it rotates freely (cleaned out of snow) then that's likely your problem. You can prove that by watching the shaft the auger is riding on if the shaft moves with the auger shear pins ok. If the auger moves seperate from the shaft the shear pin is at fault.

Snow thrower let auger not spinning with right side

If you look on the auger shaft you will see some bolts, they are called shear pins. They are there to break if something gets in the auger and jams it, the bolts will shear off to prevent damage to the auger or something else. What you have to do is replace the shear pin or pins on the side that is not turning. Hope this is helpful. All the best and good luck.

One side of the auger doesnt turn

I'm assuming that you are speaking of a snow blower auger. It most likely has sheared a cotter pin or bolt that couples the auger to it's shaft. Turn the auger slowly looking for a small hole somewhere along the shaft. When found, hold the auger and turn the impeller by hand until the inside shaft lines up it's hole (there may be a sheared piece of metal in the shaft hole). Use a pin punch to drive out any remaining shear pin and fit a recommended new pin or bolt. Hope this helps!

Auger wont spin.

sounds like you broke the shear pins? They are bolts that run through the auger/shaft and should be gold in color. DO NOT replace them with anything but a shear pin that is made for your machine. Simply use a small punch to remove what is left in the hole and line up the shaft with the auger and install the new pin.....
