ECS PT800CE-A restart problem? (can't turn off the... (by 9 users)

By Cato - usenet poster

I recently bought ECS PT800CE-A and have installed the motherboard
with P4 3.2GHz Prescott (FSB800) CPU. Everything is running smoothly.
Windows XP has been installed. My only problem so far is that I am
unable to turn off the computer from Windows XP shut-down procedure.
It went automatically shut-down but immediately restart. I tried to
hold the power button for a few seconds. The computer seems to be off,
but immediately restart again. The only way I can turn off the
computer is to turn the power supply off. I have done:

1. clear CMOS
2. removed the battery to completely re-set the M/B

things are still the same. The WORST, even I unplug the "power switch"
connector from the M/B, the M/B can still start by itself. Does anyone
experience the same problem? Thanks!

AJ

I have the same problem, in that, I cannot shut down my computer. After I try (manually) by pushing the computer with my finger. THEN it will shut off, Now then, i have gone to many programs trying to solve the this problem and i'm being told that I cannot take advantage of their programs because of an improper shut down.I am fairly new to the computer and I have lost my patience. If there is any help out there, please bring it.

ATX motherboards allow software to control when the system can turn on and off so removing the "power switch" connector from the M/B and it still being able to turn on is normal (it just don't not allow you to turn the thing on and off).

Your fix to the problem is that your settings on CMOS (BIOS) is incorrect. You have to change the "wake-up" setting to disabled. Wake-up allows your computer to be turned on by your keyboard, mouse, and even network activity. There are many options for wake-up, make sure they all are disabled.

This should fix your problem.

First go into BIOS; on start up hit DEL key or F12
Check to see if wake up is enabled. Disable it.

Go Here For Bios UpDate:

Check Out BIOS Flash Blog:

The latest versionm BIOS for PT800CE-A is as attached file. For your reference.

Please update BIOS as below steps,
1. Extract the utility to a disk and copy BIOS .bin file to this disk.
2. Boot from floppy with bootable disk.
3. Insert the disk(with utility and BIOS)
4. Execute the awd832b XXX.bin /sn/py/r
5. Load the default setting.
6. Save the BIOS then restart the system.

Hope This Helps CJI_Computers

Look to make sure you have your wires from your switches and ect.. on the right ones. This is most likely one is incorrect. They are hard to figure out but must be correct. Your USB as well must be correct. Some of these can damage your board so go over them with a fine tooth comb to make sure you understood correctly which ones go where.

I'm also having the same problem as the original poster. I have the exact same motherboard. What happens to my system is when I shutdown through windows XP start menu, my computer goes through the shutdown process normally. It just never powers down the motherboard. My monitor is off, drives are powered down, but the case fans and CPU fan are still running.
