My Dell Inspiron One Desktop Touch wont power up? I was using it with no problems when it powered off out of nowhere. I looked at the plug & noticed the blue light wasn't on. So I unplugged it from the...

Sounds like you've toasted your motherboard. The "light went out..." is the clue. To keep your business going, you can take your harddrive and "slave" it to another computer to access your files. Just requires an "external 2.5" hard drive" case for your drive. Available at any computer or electronics store like Best Buy. All of your files will be readable/writeable, but you will need to install the programs on the new computer to work with the files.

You need to remove the hard drive from your laptop and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter.
You need access to a computer that has Internet access then download and instal the Recuva program.

This includes files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted by user error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bring back files that have been deleted from your iPod, or by bugs, crashes and viruses!
  • Put the memory card into an USB card reader and plug it into the USB port in your computer, then run the Recuva program.
  • Simple to use interface - just click 'Scan' and choose the files you want to recover
  • Easy to use filter for results based on file name/type
  • Simple Windows like interface with List and Tree view
  • Can be run from a USB thumb drive

  • It's fast, tiny and takes seconds to run!
Go to these WEB sites to down Recuva http://download.cnet.com/Recuva/3000-2242_4-10753287.html www.filehippo.com/download_recuva
After installing this program plug the USB adapter and hard drive into the USB port of this computer and run the Recuva program on the USB hard drive to recover your files and backup your files.

You may need to reinstall Windows on your laptop after you install the hard drive back into the laptop.

How to install a USB flash drive

Just plug your USB flash drive into the USB port of your computer or other USB-equipped device and drag the files you want to take with you into the folder that appears on your screen. Your files are instantly transferred to your USB flash drive. To transfer the items on your USB flash drive onto another computer, simply plug your USB flash drive into the computer that you want the files transferred to, open the folder that appears on your screen, and drag the desired files onto the computer's desktop.

1.) Insert Flash Drive into the USB Port of your computer.

-Where is my USB port? It is usually found in newer model computers in a hidden compartment on the front of the hard drive and in the back of the hard drive on older computers. The port for laptops is found on the side or back of the computer.

2.) Wait for the hardware to automatically install on your computer.

After the hardware is installed, it is ready to use!

3.) In most cases, an Options Window will automatically open. Select "Open folder to view files" Click "OK."

On my acer notebook ive got the dreaded BSOD. ive tried every option in the f8 menu and end up back with BSOD. is there anyway for me to fix this? have no disk drive

Try cleaning your laptop and put 1 drop of thermal paste on the top of the processor or CPU. Then try again booting up, if still the same (BSOD) your system files are corrupted. First thing to do is to back up your data or files. Remove your HDD or hard disk drive and plug in to hdd laptop usb adaptor. So that you can backup all your files into another computer. After backup your data or filles. Then you must have the USB windows installer bootable. Make the usb boot first from your bios or cmos settings then follow the on screen instruction for formatting computer.

I have windows vista just had a new hard drive installed the data off the old drive has been put onto an hdd caddy how do I load it back onto the new hard drive of my computer, the caddy is a plug in via a...

When you insert the usb cable from the caddy into a USB port on your notebook, Vista will automatically recognize it and open a dialog box. Choose to view files and folders.

Open another Window using Explorer and resize it so you can see the contents of your C: drive.

Then simply drag your files and folders from the caddy to the C: drive where you want them.

Remember that transferring program files will NOT help you as many of the files needed to run a program are located in other folders such as yours Windows directory. You will need to reinstall any software you wish to use.

This method is strictly for data transfer, as an example all your pictures, documents, spreadsheets, etc.
