I have electric range Avanti model #der24cw1 My oven is not heating up but broiler is working. For example if I put oven on 350,450 is not working.Only time when is working it is when is on broil but is burning the food
1. Check the incoming voltage to the unit. There should be 240 volts with a neutral.
2. Check power at the Dbl (double line relay) from (Com) to neutral. There should be 120 volts
incoming to the Dbl. Refer to picture for testpoints. If voltage is ok, move to step 3.
3. Program the unit into a bake cycle. Check voltage across Dbl (double line relay) (N.O. side)
to BA relay for 240 volts. If no voltage replace relay board. If you have 240 volts go to step 4.
4. Check the HTC (high temp cutout) or thermal fuse for open circuit.
The thermal fuse is located on the rear of the oven - behind the back panel. While there, you should find a service manual for the oven with locations and troubleshooting info.
The element may have also failed - you can deduct this if all the previous checks are good and there is voltage at the element.
To test the element - Remove it from the oven, and Using your ohmmeter, set the range scale on R x 1 and place the probes on the element
terminals. There should be continuity, with readings ranging from 19 to
115ohms.
Readings will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer and according to
unit size and the wattage. Be sure to check your manual for the
manufacturer's specifications.
If there is no continuity - the element needs to be replaced.
So - in summary - there are a multitude of items that COULD be wrong...
1. High Temp Switch Failure
2. Thermostat Failure
3. Element Failure
4. Control Board Failure

Thanks for using FixYa! :D
Hi Chris Stewart - If the bake element and the top of the range works, but just not the heating element, then you possibly have a bad broiler element or connection. However, if you are experiencing other performance difficulties, then the control board may possibly be faulty and needs replacing. Consult a professional for an accurate diagnosis.
