The tanks dont need any of that, the LEACH FIELD does and it needs to be high porosity rate. The lines for it are usually buried in 24 inches or more of rock.

Septic tank pump is brand new. Our alarm just went off and we looked in tank and the water is very high.... could it be a faulty pump?

could be. could also be a clogged output line, a blockage in the septic field, even a sock stuck in the intake of the pump.

Water level sometime very low, sometimes very high (almost overflow) and eventually returns to normal level. time can vary from 30 minute to 12 hours. at end of flush often a big explosive air bubble....

I would say the first thing you should do is, drain out your toilet using a cup and sponge, remove the toilet from the floor and inspect the base of the toilet for blockage. Also check the floor floor and gasket to be sure there are no restrictions. If all is clear then run a garden hose full pressure into the drain and see if it backs up. If the drain is blocked and you don't have access to a drain snake then you an go to a local hardware store and buy what is called a drain king that connects to the garden hose and pressurizes the drain to clear the blockage. If you dig up the septic lid make sure you have it pumped at the same time. And as always don't forget to use your rid-ex every other month. Hope this helps.
