Whoever told you that was pulling your leg. In our company we still register machines that have been omitted from registration 2 years after the purchase date. Machines have at least 3 years guarantee from date of sale and maybe a year's warranty with the place you purchased it from. Have you contacted Toshiba directly?
You sim card will not register if the SIM CARD is blocked by the moperator for any specail reason, or the SIM CARD fails permanently because of it not being used for long days and it is crossed the grace period..
My advice is kindly call the operator and check the status of your number and do necessary action

I just went through the same ordeal with my phone. I went into the cingular store and they told me I had to outright by a new one or a different phone, and even suggested I go to walmart, buy a prepaid and put my sim card in it. No! I contacted Sony Ericson by email, they wrote back and told me to call this number, 1-866-766-9374 where a very nice customer service person took my info and told me a new flip door would be here in 3-5 business days, free of charge. Its either the card that you are using is not compatible with the printer, if you are using a 4g card it will not show up try a different card instead that has a low memory capacity
