thank you for your advic i was very helpful it was the fuel filter
my 406hdi has the same problem, only difference is it starts and runs for 1 min then cuts out then i got to wait for about 2 Min's before before it can start again then it cuts out. had it tested and code P0230 came up which is,fuel pump primary circuit malfunction. i put a new pump in the tank and the one in the engine and it is still doing the same thing.can anyone one help me please. thank you all.
It sounds like the pump may be faulty. These are not cheap ! Could be a faulty pressure sensor, loose pipe connection or blocked fuel filter. Check the fuel filter is clear of water and dirt. Check there are no visible leaks between the pump and the injectors.
Have you run it low on fuel ? It is possible to get air in the system, and as air is more compressible than diesel, the pump pressure sensor may be showing a low pressure.
