Computer is hooked on tv using hdmi got picture on hdmi 2 but need it to detect hdmi 1 to get the sound
SOURCE: NO SOUND WHEN USING HDMI FROM PC TO HDTV (RUNNING VISTA)
When using an HDMI to DVI cable their is no audio that comes through that cable. Even if you use HDMI to HDMI most computers only have video output from HDMI. You will have to use a seperate audio cable for you to be able to get the sound to work. Depending on the output you have on your laptop you may have to resort to hooking up a pair of speakers to the headphone jack.
Hope this helps.

We might need to change the audio settings from Sound and Audio device properties window.
Open Control and double click on Sounds and Audio devices to access the window.
Change the audio output from analog to digital.
Make sure that HDMI audio is enabled in the sound device.
If the source device menu has adjustment for PCM frequency, set the frequency to 96khz or less than that.

In all the laptops the HDMI sends only the video. If you want to send the sound you will have to use the analogue audio outputs - line out of your laptop has it (some allow the headphone jack to be configured as one) or just the headphone jack. You will need a cable like

HI Mike,
Sometimes HDMI ports have their sound channel shared with the VGA/RCA port and they need to be switched around in the TV settings.
I dont know what is brand is your TV set so you will have to check yourself in the sound settings and also check for PC settings, see if you can change that around.
You can also just try another HDMI port on your TV that have the sound dedicated to it.

Do you have some type of converter that is changing the VGA connection from the laptop to a HDMI connection on the other end that goes into the TV? Otherwise, you'll need one.
If you have them both connected then on the TV you will need to select HDMI as the input.
