Question about Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra MP3 Player

1 Answer

Headphone Jack My headphones only play the right channel on my Nomad Zen Xtra (30 GB). I've tried several headphones and they all only play the right channel so I know it's in the player jack. Other than that this player has been very reliable even though it's old.  Any ideas if this is repairable?

If you can get into it easily you can re-solder the point at which the contact is broken off the board. This is a common problem. If  you do not know how to solder, or are not good at opening these (it will void any remaining warranty) refer it to someone locally that does.

You need to say what the problem is. If it's a broken headphone jack probably someone can help. If it was flattened by a 600 lb woman stepping on it I think then no. Dropping it on a concrete floor is not good either.

the precision screwdrivers do n't have enough torque to loosen the screws, so you have to get a longer screwdriver with a very small tip a #1 size . the longer shaft with bigger handle will allow for more torque to loosen the screws. please rate this

1. Insert a pin into the small hole on the left side of the player
below the volume adjustment switch.
2. Hold down the Play button on the right side of the switch
3. Rescue Mode Menu will appear

Flaky Headphone Jack

Unfortunately the Zen Xtra was designed poorly and this problem tends to happen sometime along the life of the product.  As you suspected, the problem is the solder joint and the only solution is to open the player and resolder it yourself.  As long as you are careful, you shouldn't have any problems.  The hardest part is trying to get the thing back together after you took it apart:  Just be sure not to loose any of the pieces.  Detailed instructions with photos are located here:
