Dropped Kodak Z740 lens won't open/close

Oh..I'm so embarrassed to say this but I dropped my Kodak Z740 camera.  After dropping - lens would not open.  Then it opened but would not retract.  I'm praying someone will tell me this is a simple fix!!

Same thing happened to me, except dropped it when lens was open, and it just stays open. When turning on and off, the motor tries to wind the lens in/out but it gives up and shuts down. Cant find service manual so I'm trying to pull it apart at the moment

Stays on for only a second

please take your cam to the nearest kodak service center..the cam shows this action, due to either of the following things
  1. you have dropped your camera
  2. you might have dropped in water
please do not try to open your cam unless you know how to do it.it consists of small and delegate parts which must be handled very carefully or it might lead to de-calibration which affects the performance after it is restored to working condition!!!!!

Kodak camera dropped lens cockeyed stuck open

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Dropped camera, SD card came out. Took 2 more pictures, camera turned off. Replaced batteries, camera turns on and then back off.

I may be able to help with your Kodak EasyShare Z740 that turns itself off.

It may be a 'lens extending' problem, or it might be fixed with a combination of button presses to reset it while turning it on.

Try these steps to fix your camera.

I hope that helps.

The lens won't come out.

It depends on your definition of shot, it sounds to me like the lens assembly is jammed, this often happens when camera's are dropped. You can send it to KODAK if it's under warranty (which it won't be if you say it's been dropped) to fix and they'll likely replace the lens assembly (they might have another name for it) but if it's not under warranty the cost of the labour and the lens will likely be very close or more than the value of the camera.
Good luck,
Matt
