actually it is called a dead pixel. You can't fix it unless you will replace your LCD. Sorry for the bad news but it is for a fact. Hope I have answered your question

Anytime you get lines on the screen that means the lcd is bad and needs to be replaced. As far as the flickering problem is concerned that can be a problem with the lcd and that would go away as well once you replace the screen or it could be the inverter which supplies voltage to the lcd and its a little board that is underneath the lcd.

You got a bad LCD screen. no immediate resolution aside from getting the LCD replaced. if your system still has warranty call Dell for replacement.

If the thin line is always there, you have a set of pixels burned out. This usually occures vertically. There is easy fix, except to replace the screen. If the laptop is under warrenty, contact the manufacture for repair options.
