When I turn the set on I hear a clicking sound and the pwr LED on front comes on but no picture comes on. From then on I get the same symtom every 5- 10 seconds, after a couple of hours the set usually comes on.
The other symptom is that I can not stop the set from trying to turn on unless I pull the pwr cord from the wall receptacle

1st POSSIBILITY.....usually after 4 or 5 yrs EHT ( transformer that supplies voltage to tube ) becomes weak - then TV won't get ON.. means no picture no sound ( in some TVs ''garrrr'' like sound comes - that sound is from EHT.... but it is rare....some times ''click click'' sound comes...it is from relay switch ) ..... but LED blinks - in some TVs along with EHT 1 or 2 components like resistor, transistors, etc will also gets deffective ................ 2nd POSSIBILITY - main capacitor (very big in size) is blowing off...................... - so solution is TV circuit board has to be checked to find whether only EHT is deffective or other components are also deffective - price of EHT will be between Rs.250 (US$ 5) to Rs.600 ( US$ 12) & price of capacitor will be between Rs.50 ( US$ 1) to Rs.150 ( US$ 3) ..........iam from bangalore.....i have no idea about component's price & service charge in your area.....this problem cannot be solved by user unless user is a technical person having idea about components (resistors, transistors,diodes,...etc..), having multimeter , soldering iron & other tools...so my suggestion call TV service engineer or contact panasonic service centre
If you are ok using soldering iron then try this.
REPLACE C2962 1000UF IN POWER SUPPLY FOUND TO BE LOW CAPACITANCE CAUSING RIPPLE ON 3.3V LINE AND CONSTANTLY RESETTING THE CPU.
You can try this on the remote in standby mode, meaning tv plugged in but set off. Press Display,5,vol+,power on remote.Press each button within a 1 sec interv. Next the CRT display the item being adjusted. Press 1or4 on remote to select item. 3or6 to change the data. Press Muting then Enter to write into memory. Service Reset muting green enter red. Press 8 then enter on remote to initialize. turn set off to exit. wait least 10 sec. before turning back on.
The high voltage does come up but the set goes into shutdown because is sensing a problem somewhere in the set,the shutdown circuit gets activated when the high voltage is too high, a problem in the horizontal deflection circuit or because there is a problem in the secondary of the output transformer, this transformer helps develop voltages supplies and if one is missing the set senses the problem and shutsdown, there is another possibility and is related to the picture tube, there is a resistor in the crt board ,it should measure 51 ohms only ,sometimes it opens up and gives you same symptom. If you are familiar with tv service you can check this resistor and be alert of the other possibilities,if you are not too familiar be safe and get assistance from a servicer.
