Problem for Whirlpool ACQ158XP Thru-Wall/Window Air Conditioner
A/C window unit is putting out 20amps when suppose to be 12amps

We have had our Whirlpool for about 2 years now and never had any issue with it, recently it has been throwing one of the breakers. We replace the breaker but it still continued. The guy who replaced our breaker tested the A/C unit and said that it was putting out 20.00 - 22.00 amps when its should be 12.00amps. What would cause this and how can I fix it ?

the run capacitor for the compressor may be shorted out or could be a bad compressor .You will need a repair person to repl the compressor but you could change a capacitor if technically inclined.

call whirlpool and ask them . if they give you any lip about it tell them to look at this blog and see how many people are having problems with this particular model. ask them if they want to do a voluntary recall. i myself am thinking about consulting an attorney about a class action lawsuit.
