Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Servise Pack 2 (e8503040) for PC
After using my laptop for a few years, I suddenly get a ''Log on to Windows'' screen asking me for a password. I don't know if I have a password to get into windows or if I set one up a few years ago I don't remember what it is?
What do I do?

Log on as an administrator.
Restart the computer, and then after the Power On Self Test (POST), press the F8 key.
On the Windows Advanced Options menu, use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.
Select Microsoft Windows XP edition, and then press ENTER.
Note In this step, edition represents the correct Windows edition. d. On the To begin, click your user name screen, click Administrator, and then type the administrator password. e. Press ENTER, and then click Yes. 2. Reset the password. a. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. b. Click User Accounts, and then click the name of the user account that you want to reset the password for. c. Click Change the Password, and then type a new password. Note If you do not want to use a password, click Remove password, and then continue to step "e." d. Click Change Password. e. Restart the computer, and then try to log on to Windows XP again.

When you boot up to the log in screen type in administrator as user to log in if you cant log in
during the boot up process you will see on the screen for a short amount of time press a certain key to enter set up
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS scroll down to set user password or supervisor password you can change or remove your password from there
Remove a small coin sized CMOS battery to store all BIOS settings along with the password. To reset the password, unplug the PC, open the cabinet and remove the CMOS battery for approx. 15-30 minutes and then put it back. It'll reset all BIOS settings as well as the password and you'll need to re-enter all settings.
Under the keyboard or bottom of laptop - If you are working on a laptop computerthe location of the dipswitch (almost never a jumper) can be under the keyboard or on the bottom of the laptop in a compartment such as the memory compartment.
If it fails, then try to remove the battery for at least one hour.
You need to prepare:
1:A blank CD/DVD or USB flash drive
2.A computer which can link to internet
3.A program called Windows Password Recovery 6.0
