- I understand what your saying but im not really 100% sure how to go about doing what you've said. I also tried looking for the drivers to update them but cannot find them anywhere for the drive.

- Ok so if thats the case what do you think i should tackle next? Sorry to be a pain but this sort of area i have no clue in.
Go into your Control Panel by first clicking on the Start Button.
Then click on Settings and then click on the Control Panel icon.
Locate the System icon and Double click on it to open up the System Properties window.
Then click on the Device Manager tab at the top of the screen.
Now click on the plus sign [+] next to the CD ROM Icon to expand that section.
Double click on your CD Rom Drive to display the Properties Window.
Then click on the Settings tab at the top of the screen.
Within the Options section, You will see a white box next to DMA.
Placing a check mark into this white box will enable the high speed DMA transfer setting.
Clearing an existing check mark from this white box will disable the DMA transfer setting.
Then click on the OK button at the bottom of the screen to save your settings.
And then click on OK to exit the System Properties Window.
Select Yes when Windows Prompts you to Restart your Computer now.
Repeat the above procedure on any additional CD/DVD Rom Drives you have in your system.

- if you are using power DVD
See if in the options/advanced options of PowerDVD if there are any checkboxes for hardware video or audio acceleration. These can make the difference between smooth playback or stuttering/glitching audio.
I'd also make sure your video drivers are current, AGP is working properly (if an AGP video card) and you have the latest video drivers. In most cases, stuttering sound is due to the inability to sync audio since there isn't enough CPU resources to do this after video decode. If you can somehow reduce CPU load, this will usually clean-up audio problems.
Low memory conditions, trojans, spyware or incorrectly configured/too many systray applications can also do this. I'd try disabling any extra systray tools/utilities and messengers as well to make sure these aren't messing up dvd playback. The Task Manager should also be helpful for sorting by CPU utilization to see what might be taking up unnecessary CPU time, as well as inspecting how much available memory is free on your system prior to launching your DVD application.

- windows has its own drivers installed already
for the cd and dvd drives.

Shut off things you dont need during the playback of your DVD
did you install any new programs from when it worked good to now?

This is the 2nd drive that I've tried and the 1st drive had the same response. Things I've tried - Updated the BIOS Changed the SATA cables reset the CMOS changed DVD drives (the 1st one was a Sony DVD) downloaded all of the MOBO drivers, but they are not accepted Suggestions?
