Further to this, the sensors can give way. Try soldering or pushing the two connections together. If you need to test, you will have to put the lid back on but you can leave the sensor out of the rinter by draping between the cover and the frame of the putput tray (be careful not to pinch it. AAMOF I leave my sensor out as even though I've pinched it together it has a habit of coming undone.

Why is there a black stripe on the backsid of the paper when I try and print?

you need to clean the bottom plate, heres how:
1 Make sure that the printer is on and then remove any paper from the Rear Tray.
2 Press the Open button to open the Paper Output Tray and extend the Output Tray Extension.
3 Fold a single sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in half widthwise, and then unfold the paper.
4 Load this and only this sheet of paper in the Rear Tray with the open side to the front.

(A) Load the paper after unfolding it.
5 Open the printer properties dialog box.

6 Click the Maintenance tab, and then Bottom Plate Cleaning.
7 Confirm the displayed message and click Execute.
The paper cleans the inside of the printer as it feeds through the printer.
Check the folded part of the ejected paper. If it is smudged with ink, perform Bottom Plate Cleaning again.
Important --
Even if the Cassette is selected as the paper source, paper will be fed from the Rear Tray.
Do not perform any other operation while the bottom plate is being cleaned.
If the problem is not resolved after performing cleaning twice, the protrusions inside the printer may be stained. Clean them according to instructions. See Cleaning the Protrusions Inside the Printer.

Black smudged stripe along the paper stripe from 5PGBK

You probably have a piece of paper or lint stuck in the paper path. Take a heavier piece of paper and slide it gently thru the machine from the back tray.....if that doesnt work, take out the print heads one at atime, run the nozzle under warm water for only 2-5 seconds. Ink will come out in the sink, dont worry about that. Then let drip dry for about 10 seconds each and then wipe carefully with a good quality paper towel..>DO THIS WITH PRINT HEADS FACE UP THE WHOLE TIME....

We have the same problem. I removed the cartridges, then removed the print head. There was lots of ink gunk on the print head. I cleaned it and the problem disappeared completely for a few days but is now back. I suspect the print head needs to be replaced. Still working on it.
