My '03 pt cruiser will not turn over, even though i replaced the battery. it had been idle for 2 months.

I tried starting my car on a cold day a couple months ago,but i just ran the battery down. i bought a new battery but the engine wouldn't turn over. would some starter fluid work?

SOURCE: Replacing 2004 PT Cruiser Starter

He can do it. Tell him to just be patient (everything is a tight fit in a PT) and remember to disconnect the battery first. No special tools are required. He may have to move a bracket or two for access. It lives on the left side (front) of the motor and easiest to get to from underneath.

SOURCE: replacing a starter in a PT. Cruiser 2001

Remove battery and battery support you'll be able to undo starter bolt's trough there and slip starter out.

Testimonial: "This didn't help, because you had to remove the engine structural collar under the starter to get at the starter bolt. It was more complicated."

It sounds like a sensor is intermittantly loosing the data stream. Since the engine light came on, I would go to a reputable shop and have them check for codes. Many auto parts stores will do this as well and sometimes for free. Can't beet free. If I were to guess I would say something like the camshaft postion sensor is going bad, Or the crankshaft postion sensor, Or something like that. The code will tell which one it is.

Good luck, and if you have any further questions please....ask!

Testimonial: "It was the cam shaft sensor - stuck open -I liked that you were able to give a reason for the suggestons you gave, it wasn't done off the cuff."

Location speed sensor pt cruiser 03 touring car do

It sounds like the module is in limp mode. The speed sensor is most likely the cause, but it can be some other things as well. A scan will give a code stating the problem area.

The speed sensors are on the side of the trasmission that faces the front of the vehicle. There are 2 of them, and they are the same sensor. One is an input speed sensor located closest to the engine, the other is the output speed sensor.

I would check your wire harness. The starter is close to where you would be working on the radiator. I have not had the pleasure to put one in but i know its a tight squeez in there.

I would go to autozone or something and have them read the computer in your vehicle. This will tell you what those codes mean.Than go from there.
If I had to guess, there is a short or the computer is bad.
