Maytag Dishwasher Blinking LEDs - "Freestanding" Electronic Control
My Maytag “Freestanding” dishwasher won't start a cycle and has Blinking LED lights on the front. It worked fine yesterday.Model Number: MDC5100AWW.Serial Number: 27379485AEControl Type: Electronic
The following two LEDs are blinking:
- LED above the "Heated Dry" button
- LED for the "Clean" icon
They are both on constant synchronized blink (NOT providing specific number of blinks to indicate a code).
I bought the dishwasher new in 2001 and it has never had a problem prior to today.
May or may not have contributed to the issue:Yesterday I ran the dishwasher using the "rinse only" cycle to rinse the cups with only water.During the middle of the rinse I needed to get water from the faucet, so I removed the plastic attachment that holds inlet and outlet hoses to the opening of the kitchen faucet. (It
You may have a seized/stuck motor. Turn the electricity off and remove the lower panels. Take a flat head screw driver and carefully attempt to move the motor impellers. If the impellers feel hard to turn continue to try and free the impellers. If they loosen, reactivate the power and start the appliance. Good luck!
I'll start by saying the "2" in the display when you press cancel is normal. If you allow it to complete it should initiate the drain before you press cancel the second time.
Initially It sound's like a fill valve or stuck float assembly, though there are many possible scenarios that can include a heating element or a control board, so I'll need to clarify the unit will indeed complete the cancel if you do not push it the second time and if it does complete the cancel will it then in turn start a new cycle ?
Let me know what you find or if you can add any further details and I'll try to help moving forward any way I can. Good luck.

Kenmore Dishwasher Error Code = Start Resume light blinking slow
When the dishwasher door opens or electrical power is removed during the cycle then the dishwasher will not start again. The door is detected as being closed and the Start Resume button is being pressed Kenmore Dishwasher Error Code = Clean light is blinking 7 times
Heater circuit fail. Control panel did not detect the water getting hot. Did not detect heating element was energized to heat the water during the wash cycle Kenmore Dishwasher Error Code = Sanitize LED blinking at end of cycle
Control panel could not detect if sanitation has been achieved Kenmore Dishwasher Error Code = Console light blinking rapidly
There is a stuck button on the control panel Kenmore Dishwasher Error Code = Clean light is constantly illuminated
Dishwasher cannot start a wash cycle until it sees that the door has been opened after the previous washing cycle Kenmore Dishwasher Error Code = Control lock LED is ON but not responding to pressing of the keys
Turned on by accident or there is a control detected key pad problem
Error CodeConditionCheck/RepairShop PartsClean light blinks 7 timesHeater circuit failure. Control didn't detect the expected rise in water temperature.Check the heating element and related components (wiring and control board) in that circuit.
Heating element, Electronic control board, Thermistor, Circuit wiring
Console light blinks rapidlyThe control detects a stuck button on the control panel.A failed control panel or a malfunctioning electronic control board can cause this code. Check the buttons on the control panel using a volt/ohm meter. In most cases, the control panel must be replaced. If that doesn't solve the problem, the electronic control board might be at fault.
Control panel, Electronic control board
Start/Resume light blinks slowlyIf the dishwasher door is opened or power is interrupted during the cycle, the dishwasher won't start again until the door is detected as closed and the Start/Resume button is pressed.Check the door latch and switch assembly. A failure in the Start/Resume button also can cause this problem.
Door switch assembly, Control panel, Electronic control board
Clean light stays onThe dishwasher won't start a new cycle unless it detects that the door opened after the previous cycle.Turn off power to the dishwasher by shutting off the breaker and restarting. If that does not work, the door switch assembly is stuck and must be replaced.

Sanitized LED blinks at end of cycleControl couldn't confirm that the dishes were sanitized.Check voltage to the dishwasher and the temperature of incoming water. Check the diverter motor, the heater and the OWI/thermistor.

press the "off" button and hold it down for several seconds. this worked for me when i encountered the same problem on my maytag jetclean this weekend. it reset my control panel and now it's working great!
it is a problem with the heating cycle.Dishwasher “Clean” Light Blinks 7 Times
The electronic control looks for a temp. rise of 2° - 4° F.
If no temp rise, the control assumes a heater fault and blinks the clean LED 7x.
Check the heater circuit, water fill, wash pump operation, and neutral side door
Run a Diagnostic Cycle to reset the control.
REPLACING THE CONTROL WILL NOT RESOLVE THE CONDITION.
All Electronic Controls
S.O.P. – Standard Operating Procedure Whenever an electronic control is suspected
to be the cause of a product failure: before replacing the control, disconnect and then
reconnect all of the wiring harness connectors to ensure proper electrical contact.
I hope this helps.
PROBLEM: STOPPED RUNNING, WILL NOT START AND CLEAN LED BLINKS 7 TIMES, THEN REPEATS (WATER HEATING FAULT) Control is programmed to stop running and not allow any further cycles if it detects a water heating problem (no temperature increase detected in heated Main Wash on 3 consecutive cycles). Control blinks the Clean LED 7 times repeatedly and disables the Start/Resume key until cleared. Running Diagnostics clears the control and allows it to operate again. The water heating problem must be fixed or the control will stop running again. See potential causes below. Heater circuit problem: ■ Open in heater. ■ Open connection or component in heater circuit. ■ Faulty heater drive circuit on control. 1. Check operation of heater in Diagnostics cycle. 2. Unplug dishwasher or disconnect power. 3. Check resistance of heater and all components and connections in the water heating circuit or heat dry circuit. Wash pump not pumping water past the heater efficiently. See “WASH PUMP WILL NOT PUMP”. Door switch not making contact consistently: ■ Faulty or sloppy door latch assembly (which can be aggravated by high door closure force keeping strike plate from fully seating). ■ Faulty door switch (high resistance). NOTE: Neutral switch on plastic tub models is only in series with motor and heater; other loads are not affected. 1. Unplug dishwasher or disconnect power. 2. Measure resistance of door switch contacts while checking mechanical operation of latch assembly. Confirm switches not loose from assembly. Check strike plate and door closure. Lack of water to heat. See “WILL NOT FILL OR LOW WATER”. PROBLEM: WON’T START AND START/RESUME K
I ran into this same problem. Cutting the power didnt reset it.
After power reset, mine had the normal led blinking. If I pressed cancel, then the cancel and china button leds would start blinking too.
I pulled out the trouble shooting guide (from behind the baseboard kick panel under the dishwasher door). It that if the dishwasher wont run and button LEDs are blinking there is a short circuit in the keypad. It gave a keypad diagnostic sequence which I followed. (disconnect keypad and try to initiate the diagnostic cycle without the keypad by disconecting the yellow leads to OWI sensor twice in less than 6 seconds.
I could hear the diagnostic cycle start, so the problem is a bad keypad. Will order a new one tomorrow and let you know if it works.
