I had netflix on and when i turned it on it says needs to upgrade

It should be okay to upgrade Netflix. Did it provide you a link to upgrade the player? If you do not have access privileges to install software on the computer you are using, you will likely need to find the computer's administrator to have them update the software.

If you were using a temporary version of the Netflix player, it might require you to upgrade to a "non-demo" version because your demo period expired. Note: when you upgrade, however, it will likely require a paid membership. This is a common sales tactic.

Check your internet speed. IF you are not paying for NetFLix HD service you won't get HD. I pay $10 a month for 2 devices HD streaming. You prob need to upgrade your Netflix plan.

You can update silverlight for free with Microsoft. Your computer needs the program to stream the programs.
It has nothing to do with Netflix, although the program is needed on your computer, to let Netflix (or any other movie program) work correct.

Having problems steaming netflix through our TV

It could be buffering when it stops playing your video. You dont need a real fast internet connection but it shouldnt be real slow either. Ive noticed that if you get the basic monthly internet its only providing 3 mbps. Which is slow and will cause the video to buffer. Mine is only a step above at about 7 mbps and I have no problems with buffering. Is this is the case just upgrade to a faster speed through your internet carrier.
