Turn your Mobile phone on to camera. Point the remote at the camera lens on your mobile phone and press and hold any button down on the remote.It should show up as a flashing purplish light on the phone screen.

Check the remote control for its infrared emission first. If it is found OK, check other codes said to your TV brand. If you wish to get more; check the site linked here. SOURCE: had my samsung dlp tv repaired today. tvs fine now but the remote does not work(still works on dvd player) direct tv remote does power on tv either or control volume anymore

It sounds that the remote control should be programmed once again with TV with its setup codes. Setup codes for Samsung TV are:

0105 0077 0076 0109 0007 0009 0004 0005 0085 0172 0942 0358 0012 0015 0080 0104 0106
Check these codes, and select one which have maximum functionality with your TV.

I need a universal remote for my tv

To select a proper universal remote control, you should know about the number of digits to its set-up codes. There are 3 digit, 4 digit, 5 digit, 2 digit and even single digit codes, to some brand devices. After confirming this, check the sites linked here. Both the sites have set-up code list and set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. Check which brand remote control has set-up code/s to your device brand, and buy that one according to availability. Brand name of the remote control isn't a matter, but it should have set-up codes in its code list, to the device brand you have.
Please note: Every new universal remote control will have set-up code list, and set-up procedure along with its pack. Never accept a remote control, that hasn't both of this. For more details about the set-up codes, visit the sites.
