Caution: Performing a System Recovery completely erases and reformats the hard disk drive - this includes deleting all data files you have created and stored on the hard drive. System Recovery reinstalls the operating system, programs, and drivers.

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. Disconnect all connected devices and cables such as the Personal Media Drive, USB drives, printer, and fax. Remove media from drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware. Do not disconnect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power cord .

  3. Turn on the computer.

  4. From the Windows desktop click Start restore Compaq factory settings with no disc - c00834869.gif , and then All Programs .

  5. Click PC Help & Tools .

  6. Click Recovery Manager . The Recovery Manager Welcome screen appears.

  7. Click Next .

  8. On the Software Program Re-installation screen select No , and then click Next .

  9. On the Hardware Re-installation screen select No , and then click Next .

  10. On the screen that prompts for Microsoft System Restore select No , and then click Next .

  11. The Recovery Manager prompts if you want to restore the computer to its original factory shipped condition. Click Yes , and then click Next .

If windows won't boot the HP/Compaq website says: Turn on the computer and immediately press the F11 key repeatedly , about once every second, until Recovery Manager opens. The link posted above also has the full instructions for that method as well.

I have a Compaq Presario V5120nr notebook that needs to be restored to the factory settings. I don't have a cd restore disc. Previously on my other computers, I accomplished this through the bios but I...

Some name brand computer comes with a partition recovery drive which allows you to do a factory restore, which in your case was with your "other computers" If there is a restore partition drive on your laptop you can see it when you first start up your computer and there should be a F-key option display posting you to do a restore. If you don't see this when you start your laptop, this mean that the laptop manufacture did not provide a partition restore space on your hardrive. They either had supplied a restore cd-rom disc when purchased or you have to create one yourself. In acer brand models, you have to create a restore disk yourself. In Hp which does own compaq, they do have this restore option during startup. My advice would be if you check your computer in the Os to see if there is a program that prompt to created a recovery disk, usually it is a compaq sofeware. if not you might need to contact compaq and request a recovery disk for a fee.

I need to know how to restore my Compaq Presario 2700 to factory setting because it has crashed.

If you have the original recovery disc for the laptop, then I would re-install your operational system to bring it back to factory setting. If you do not have the disc go to www.compaq.com for customer support to see if they have the disc available.

Restoring factory setting

you should have received some discs when you bought the PC...if not, try looking in your programs list for the application to create the Recovery discs.
Some, not all Compaq's have a F10 recovery (at boot press F10)

be sure to save your personal data to another source (USB stick, CD...etc)

Hardisk have difrent amount

Because Compaq has a hidden partition on you're C:\
Stored in that hidden partition is Compaq's restore drivers & software. If & when you need to run the restore CD on the Compaq, the restore CD enter's that partition & uses the software to help in the process of restoring the C:\ drive to factory settings. (This is normal for most Compaqs).
